What have you done to your Miata today?

Yeah... that part sucks, but I make sure I go to my local tire shop of choice to at least give them their installation money.

What size Rivals did you pick up?

I'm jealous I want a set. :)

Be careful in the wet. Enjoy ripping your face off in the dry :D

I am looking forward to it. The Toyos will be going back on the car while I'm gone so I don't have to worry about the wife having issues (or curbing one of my irreplaceable wheels).

205-50/15 to be mounted on a set of 15 X 8s. Pictures will have to wait until I get the engine back together.

Ooo. That's a good size combination.

Does anyone else here use 205/50/15s?

949Racing finally got the right pressure plates for my clutch in, and is shipping that out today. Freaking finally. He's bumped it up to 2 day due to the delay. If it gets in by Friday (it freaking better...), I'm going to try and get that thing installed this weekend.

I used to in RE-01Rs and RE-11s back in my STS days. It's a great tire size in terms of choices and availability, and they work well on a decent range of wheel widths (will work well on a 6", better on a 7", great on a 7.5" or 8").

Now I'm on 20.0x9.0x13s :D

(here they are, shown next to 205/50s)

I have 205/50/15s falken 615ks
pretty good but still have to run it more. so far they only have one track day on them. plan is to do replace the softop and paint the car before doing more track days. the pic is of them when they were just mounted.

Man, I definitely enjoyed my RT-615k's while they lasted. Such a sticky street tire. New turbo breaks them loose around 5500 at 11psi in 1st gear. Silly s*** it is.

And as good as they are, they were always a 2nd teir street tire in the UHP / Max Performance sector. The R1R & Rival are head and shoulders above them. The RE-11 & -11A, and the Yokohama Advan Neova AD08R in the bigger sizes are also faster.

Oh no doubt. I don't really have experience with any of the other ones. Eventually, maybe, I'll get one of the aforementioned tires.

Tires are due to be delivered today. Tightened the valve stems in the wheels this morning, just have to wait for the phone call to take them up to the shop.

Put the dash vents back in, love the stain black rings so they will be staying in. I used black automotive silicone, used clear stuff the first time and when I removed them found a couple of rings were a little loose. After a day of setting up the new ones seem secure.

You forgot the Hankook RS-3 which is still up there with the R1R and Rival in certain sizes, not a lot of data on the RE-11A yet, but some folks are saying that it can be as fast as the Rival depending on the setup.

I used shaved R1Rs last weekend at the national tour and they are pretty awesome.

Yep, I did indeed forget about the RS-3 (and the Direzza Z1 & Z2s). I fail at flaunting my UHP e-weiner :( haha

Who knew! I thought everyone in here ran larger sizes! (I'm talking about you MSM guys ;))

at one point i was looking to do toyo R1Rs but was looking around for review and saw quite a few complaints about the wear.(not a lot ) Some people were saying they wore easily and unevenly. How do you guys feel about the wearing capabilities and the grip capabilities compared to hankcook rs-3s since most people in our miata competition, in my class, are running on rs-3s.
My brother is also looking to run R1Rs as his track tires for his fr-s too so any first hand information from you guys would be helpful. thanks

I've only had R1Rs for a couple weeks. I bought them from a guy who used them for 2 years for autocross (after having them shaved to 4/32nds). In about 20-30 events he wore them down to 2/32nds and the wear is a little strange. He wore one of the tires slightly more than the others due to spinning the rear wheel with his open diff. But with track miles or normal street miles it would be a non-issue. It also depends on how aggressive your suspension setup is as well.

I wouldn't use the R1Rs as a track tire as they don't really tolerate heat very well. On a cool day, sure they'd be fine but on the other hand, RS-3s like heat and Rivals do well in all temperature ranges if the reports are to be believed. So I'd go with one of those for a track tire for sure. FWIW, the STX class winner this past weekend in Wilmington was on RS-3s against a whole host of cars on Rivals. If it were me though I'd pick the Rivals.

Honestly, the Toyos are only popular for autocross in the 195 size. The way they are made is different when comparing the 195 to a lot of the other common autocross sizes as the sticky rubber goes all the way to the cords with the 195s. That said, with full tread this doesn't matter at all, but once you get down to 2-4/32nds it makes a difference.
