You got it and the more I think about it the most logical road considering the aftermarket parts, etc. Could def. make a bit more selling it outright and may try but if it's too much hassle I'd just trade it in. Still waiting to hear back about the used engine. ;)

Enjoy the weather. Might be taking a drive home with the top down. Guy who works for me picked me up in his 2011 MX5 this morning. :) So what goodies you got going in??? I'll be taking it easy this month...lol but the big dance recital is in June!

Got a call from my insurance agent....getting a refund of $454 for the towing bill! :D

nice jeff! enjoy the ride...why the refund? that's cool though...

just a few bits: smoked turn lenses, new scan gauge II (left my otherone in my p5 for the kid to use, i'll move it to my truck when he gets rid of the car), new mount for my iphone

Jeff, just because a new car would be a bit of a tight budgetary item, find out the sales tax implications on trading in a new car in your state.

Example:
I was going to sell the forester for 7000.

I ended up trading it in on the fit. Why you ask? The fit was 16k out the door. You can write off the sales tax portion of your trade in. I only paid sales tax on 9k as opposed to 16k. Net savings? About 600 bucks.

They gave me 6600 for a trade, so I ended up making $200 more trading the car in.

Until the driver didn't show up until 7ish and thought it was only me to take home. Had to drive back to the shop to swap trucks for one with an extended cab to accomodate the three of us. So we didn't get on the road home until 8:00 (3hrs after I called)!!! (argh)

Of course at the shop, the mgr proceeds to tell me that the estimmate of $500 was wrong as the rep told him it was 110 miles where he had it at 150 miles???? As stated above...the girl confirmed with me the mileage of 150 before getting the quote from the co.??? He then says that at their rate of $4.75 a mile it will be well over $600 and wanted to let me know...in case I wanted to change my mind, stay the night in a local hotel and have them look at the car Sunday morning. Sorry but this raised some red flags with me and I'll be contacting the ins. co. tomorrow! And longest 3hr drive home I've ever had..driver was falling asleep and at points along 95S, 87N, 287S and 78W was crossing from slow lane to fast lane and actually hit the guardrail just after we crossed the Tappanzee Bridge! His fiancee was riding along and would poke him from time to time. At several points I was ready to tell him to pull over and drop my car and I'd just make other arrangements. Thankfully we all arrived home safely!!!! I'll be mentioning that to insurance as well!

Got to the mechanics at 11:30 and paid the bill of $769.50 and took our son's friend home and then came home and crashed. Lights, radio worked just fine while we were sitting on the shoulder so I'm thinking fuel pump or timing belt?!

Thanks and will do. Seeing that I've got to put a Miata on hold for now, I'll have to enjoy what I can get. A little light reading posted above for the refund reason.

Nice, the smoked lenses will lood on the VR.

nice! i like your thinking!

Yeah, contrary to popular belief, there is some benefit to trading a car in at a dealer vs selling private party. In some situations, it does make more sense, and it is less hassle. However, each situation is different.

Say Jeff were going to buy a new 6 and the list was 24k.

24k x .065 (CT sales tax rate) = $1560 in sales tax

Say the dealer gave him $2000 for a trade.

(24k - 2000) * .065 = $1430

Theoretically, in order to break even with the trade benefits on a private party sale, Jeff would need to sell for $2130.

Now, lets play with more realistic numbers:

Say he gets $500 take it or leave it from the dealer.

He'd be paying $1527 in sales tax, which is only about a $33 benefit, meaning he'd only have to sell for $533 to break even. So if he could get $600 for parting it out or selling it, he'd walk away ahead.

And yes, I over analyze EVERYTHING :P

Nice Jeff. Tough call on the car.

Been working for 2 days. Fitting right back in, like I never left. Feels good to be working again.

Hoping to have some down time this weekend. Long holiday weekend for us. May build a small deck for the rig.

I'd be glad to help. I'm weird. I love car shopping.

Jess had never gone with me to buy a car until I purchased the Honda. She walked out of the dealer with me and said "I don't ever want to have to sell you anything. That was brutal."

She went along when we purchased the Outback as well. That one wasn't as bloody. I did most of the negotiations over the phone. By the time I walked into the dealer I already had him down to 2k under invoice.

Morning Everyone! TGIF!

I'm heading to Texas for all next week for work training, so you all probably won't see me on here very often for the week. I'm surprised that I sent out about 50 personal emails (one to each climb registrant) and only got back about 5 replies (sans the NEM6 crew). Oh well, their loss if they don't have exact change at the climb.

Anyways, I saw that my last link attempt failed (why this site can't post links properly I'll never know) - try this one out if you have a second :)

http://www.nem6.com/climb - I updated it this morning.

Have a great weekend and a great week everybody!

so you back at the same dealer bruce?

Yup. Like I left yesterday.

Busy weekend. Cleaned up the lot and bought wood for the deck Sat. Built the deck Sun. Drove to Moms to mow the lawn and put in her boat dock. Then we get a call from the retirement home that dad fell in the driveway and may have a broken rib. SPent 4 hours taking him into the hospital on a holiday weekend to get his chest xrayed. Good news nothing is broken. Just sore muscles. Got some bruises on his face but no other injuries. Will rest at work.

Mary got a job working at a golf course as a waiter, waitress?? She starts Thursday. The MIata group has a tech nite tonite and I will change the brake fluid and bleed all 4.

Hey gang! Hit a snag with the engine. The one I ordered with 80K came in today but the salvage yard said it was not in acceptable shape for them to deliver to the mechanic so they are driving to Philly tomorrow to get one with 68K from a car that was recently rear ended, motor is still in the car and runs. Seeing that my guy won't get it now until the end of the day tomorrow or early Thursday morning I'm expecting to get the car back on Monday (at the earliest). :(

Hope your dad is feeling better Bruce and thank goodness he didn't break anything!!! Congrats to Mary as well....looks like more mods are in order now that you have a suga momma. lol
