Okay, took the wife all the way to the airport and back to drop the daughter off at daycare. Total drive time over an hour, car is running absolutely normal. Pull into daycare, go to put car in park and realize it died. Car won't start now and makes a HIDEOUS noise when you try to start it. Of course...in my head it sounds like the motor is toast. I can't seem to find anyone else reporting issues like this but I may be wrong. Here's the vid of the sound it makes when I try to start it.

Any help is appreciated.

any check engine lights? and oil on the ground? could be a few things. id pull the valve cover and check the timing chain.

I don't hear any serious noises from your engine, just a normal cranking noise. Get the car to a mechanic.

are you serious? that noise is horrible if your car sounds like that while cranking there is definitely something wrong.

No previous noises or anything while running. It does have the famed startup rattle lately. Right about 100k Miles. No oil on the ground. Going to check CEL today.

if you are having start up rattle your vvt is bad, and your chain is probably stretched. You chain could have snapped you need to take the valve cover off and look at whats going on.

No compression in any of the cylinders. Mechanic wants $2800 just to tear it down. Probably another $2k after that. What a s*** show. How do you grenade a motor with no noises or any indication. It just died. Do I take it to a dealer?

That's horrible. Really sorry to hear. How noticeable was the rattle you had on start up in the weeks leading up to this?

Did you pull the valve cover off and check the timing chain like i told you? if your chain is broken the cams wont move and some of the valves will be open causing no compression when you go to do a compression test. i highly doubt your lost compression on all 4 cylinders without prior warning.

Alright...finally got the car back last night and the mechanic can't figure out what this new noise is. This only happens at pretty heavy throttle which leads me to believe it's something in the VVT actuator that they replaced considering (in my head at least) that the VVT system is dependent on throttle percentage. Take a listen and see if any of you have a CLUE what this noise is. It's a tiny little file.

Other than this noise...the car runs perfectly fine.
