New Mazda3 Spied

Interesting, but I don't see much with all that camo.

The thing that I noticed first was it's large front grill, quite different than the CX5 and 6.

It's not different at all, it's just covered up to hide the chrome surround that links in to the headlights!

From the side it looks like a sportier Audi A3.

I'm no wiz at photoshop but here's an overlay with the current model and one with sections cutout to show the other car behind it.

Just focusing on the rear window I end up with:

it is hard to get the angles just right on the two images so the sizing may be off.

They camouflaged this thing pretty well.

From how poorly camo'ed some prototypes from other car manufacturers are, I swear they must be just driving them around for publicity.

If the Mazda 6 wagon never comes over, I guess some will have to settle for the 3. Wonder what will power the next Mazda3speed.

If it's got the 2.2 Skyactiv-D in it, I'd be all over it.

So no Kodo design with the 3? I was expecting something more like the pic below. This one is pretty hideous...so far. Can't really tell with that crazy camo thanks to HandA you somewhat get a feel for what it looks like.

HUH?! Look a little closer at the spy shots. Even with the camo, I see a sectioned CX-5 body with all the earmarks of Kodo. You don't expect Mazda to abandon this approach on theri bread and butter C segment car, do you?

You must have better vision than me then, I don't see it. If it is then it will be real real nice..

It is hard to tell with the camo, but I can see the character line on the side screams Kodo design. The rear hatch and dual exhaust also look very similar to the back of the CX-5. The grill leaves much to be desired based on the camo but I bet it will look better without the camo.

I am optimistic, but we will see.

Am looking forward to see what engine options Mazda will offer on the 3. A 3 with the 2.5L Skyactiv will probably still get around 38 or so EPA and it would be a blast to drive. Particularly with a stick shift. What a nice car that would make.
