Hello anyone else experiencing electric latch issues on the hatch? Slam it, stealth closure, medium force, no matter, it decides when it will finally fully catch and not give me the "door ajar" light... Newness? Needs more grease??? (uhm)
There were several posts early on about people having difficulty with hatch closure. Basically, the latch is designed so that minimal force is required to close it. Most of them seem to work fine using that tecnique (including mine). If you've tried everything, as you say, and nothing works, I would take it to the dealer and have them assess the problem. You may need a new latch.
I had trouble with that my ffirst few weeks. I think the problem was me. I havent had it happen in six months now. I close the door gently from the ridge by the mazda symbol on the hatch and it always closes now. For me it was just getting used to the electronic latch.

+1. Had the same problem for 3 weeks and got pretty fed up when I drove down the street and found out it didn't lock all of the way. Found out this exact method on my own, no problems for the last 2 months (cheers2)
I wasn't happy the way mine was closing, so I adjusted the latch side myself. Understand though that this may not be the total solution since the hinges can be adjusted as well.
The latch mechanism preps for closing after you open the trunk. It takes about a second to do this. So if in your attempts to close it, you are opening the trunk and then slamming it immediately. It will not work.
You have to open it, wait a second, and then close it. If you listen for it when you open the trunk, you can hear the mechanism moving to prep it for closing.
