Is the engine used in an 02 Merc Cougar the same-ish as what you are going to install? My daughter bought this cougar and it has been a money pit. I am just wondering if it is the same engine because I might get the engine from the car when the car finally falls apart.

pretty positive the cougar uses a ford duratec engine

Wes and I went to Wendy for lunch and I came out to find this boner parked right next to me.

Adn Wes dropped off his old/my new 20 ton shop press. Yay new toys!

The cougar was the continuation of the probe, but it doesn't have a KL. It could be the same or a similar Duratec to one that's in the Contour SVT. They're all shallow angle v6's with the same displacement.

No, not same engine. Also, dump that car as soon as possible. The Mrs. had a 99, I know the money pit that the are... and a PITA to work on if its the V6.

Not that I'm aware of, Larry. The Ford Probe GT 93-97, Mazda MX6 LS 93-97, Mazda 626 (option) and 98-02 Mazda Millenia L all had the KL V6 over here.

I figured as much. I did some quick research and it is the duratec 25. I was hopeful that the mounts and what not would be the same. Since I can get it for next to nothing I was pretty excited. Now not so much. I told her when she was looking for a car that she did not want a cougar. I said "there is a reason you don't see many of them around, they are junk". But since dad doesn't know anything she bought it anyway. I found her a decent 97 Stratus with less mileage, better tires, and cleaner inside and out for less money, but she didn't like the color.

i loved my cougar, but when s*** starts breaking it adds up FAST!!!

i dropped 1500 in a matter of 2-3 months just to keep mine running, then something else broke and i dumped it as fast as possible and bought the 3

I couldn't tell you how much she has put into her car. Problem is it needs more things done to it.

I've had a question on my mind. With an upgraded motor, you are obviously beefing up the front end's handling and suspension. Did you select a certain lowering spring that differs from the rear to compensate in the weight difference? I'm not even sure of the weight difference in the motors.
