Any comments on SKYACTIV technology?

automatics have actually been achieving higher milage than manuals for the past couple years.
its being advertised on either the 2012 or 2013 mazdas so it is the real deal. i looked into it a few weeks ago out of curiosity and they actually use a 4-2-1 header to free up exhaust flow

I was going to buy a Mazda3 SKYACTIV but when I came across the deal on the P5 I couldn't pass it up. The wife and I agreed that the extra MPG's didn't justify having to go with a car payment.

its a great move for mazda, but its still needs to be taken to the next level. i want the TRUE highway mpg to be 40, not the estimate which is very generous. id also love to see this moved into a speed3 (which I am sure will be happening soon) that can get 30+mpg with no drop in performance. I know i am focusing a lot on mpg but thats what these engines were designed for. I say give them 3-4 years and these engines are going to be really something special. as you said that sort of compression on regular gas is something amazing.

on another note, lets see an awd speed3. the evo is on the way out and mazda could easily go toe to toe subaru and the wrx/sti. thats more a of a pipe dream than anything though...

or a 2012 Hyundai Elantra. Wife is pulling 36-38 in mixed driving. Nice car. Liking it a lot so far. 1.8 auto. No race car but for the money you don't get mpg AND performance. It doesn't do too bad for what it is. Just needs stiffer rear springs.

18k for a new mustang gt? try 30k+
Hang on, obviously you missed the part in the post about the Elantra where I said you won't get performance AND mpg for the price of a Hyundai with a 1.8 that costs 18k. Then you come with mustangs with 28 mpg and 400 hp like it costs anywhere near 18k new, which I never acted like or said it did which is what I was telling you to think again about. Caught up yet? Yes, mustang gt new is 30k which is not 18k as the Elantra was. Yes it will go much faster and break and turn into a money pit much faster while the Elantra will still be puttin along doing 36-38mpg which is why it was bought to begin with and getting high mpg was where we took off from when you said something about needing a diesel volkswagon or prius if you want to get 40mpg in post #5. And now, back to Skyactiv mpg talk with high compression on reg gas with an automatic.........
