iPod and factory radio? Options?

I installed the Grom Bluetooth adapter. Just do a search on this forum for Grom and you'll see there are a few of us who have already installed it. I can still use the multi-disc player too. The sound quality kicks ass over FM. I installed mine in the little spot where the mini-tape should be on the factory head unit.

I just installed an HD radio in the P5, after looking at the cost of a hard wired aux in this was only $30 more. I bought the JVC HDR44 off of Crutchfield after adding the dash kit, harness, connectors, and tools, plus I used a coupon code it only came to $84 shipped. The sound quality and reception over stock is amazing.
I would personally recommend just purchasing a new stereo if your primary audio source is your iPod. Many stereos today feature iPod control through the stereo interface, which is sometimes executed very nicely. This allows you to hide the iPod in a glove compartment. These stereos will also charge the iPod while it's plugged in, so you don't have to bring it back and forth. If you order from Crutchfield, you will pay a bit more, but they will give you a guide and all the necessary tools to install the stereo yourself, which will save you money. And obviously, just about any aftermarket stereo will improve sound quality. If you want to pay a bit more, many stereos will connect with your Bluetooth enabled phone, allowing you to use your car as a speakerphone.

This is just my opinion, I personally wouldn't put any money in to a factory stereo. I say more bang for your buck (2thumbs)
correction- the second stereo does not include all of the necessary install equipment from Crutchfield, although you could buy it separately.

Grow audio device all the way. It plugs right into the back of the radio and you can control your ipod from both the headunit and the ipod itself. not to mention is also charges the ipod as well. this is actually better than some aftermarket units that plug into the headphone jacks and thats it. plus no worries about people looking into your car and seeing an aftermarket radio. I have had mine for about 3 years i think, easily on the best investments i have made with this car.

Been kinda wanting me some HD radio and since I have the MSP dash pocket as well as the EDM clock/cubby thing for single DIN action, this is kinda tempting as hell. Question, is the blue lighting in the pics changeable? Didn't see any mention of it in the specs........

This would be perfect if it didn't cost another 149.00 for HD radio capability. If I change out HU, I want matching colors, HD radio and a USB/MP3/Ipod option.

The JVC? I only see 4 pics on Crutchfield site and the ones that show front both have blue lighting. I did see the red on the Sony link but that one costs 149.00 to add HD rec to it. The Pioneer is right color but has no HD radio capability or option......
If I change out HU, I want matching colors, HD radio and a USB/MP3/Ipod option.

I have grom audio in my truck with usb. I have not tried to plug anything other than a flash drive into the usb port. I am not sure if grom audio with usb will recognize storage devices inside phones the same way it does a flash drive. Using a flash drive is controlled by the stereo controls but I don't have steering wheel controls so there is another question unanswered. Basically, I doubt it but if all else fails, call or email grom with your questions............

I dunno, some storage cards from phones can't be read by computers and not sure if grom audio will be capable of talking to my phone. If you plug a phone into pc it goes and installs s*** to be able to talk to the phone and the grom box will have no way to do that. Oh wait, the rules of the grom using flash drives is FAT file system and at least one folder. The folder part would be there but not thinking a non-windows based mobile device uses a FAT file system. Still, haven't actually tried it but highly doubting it'll just magically do it.
Bought the GROM.... so far, I am bummed. I selected the one for "ipod" as I have an Iphone. SO... I get it all in, and low and behold.... no adapter cable for the ipod. I called them up ....."you have to buy that cord sir, its $25.They made it an 8 pin round to ipod dock ,so Best buy doesnt have it. Anyway... be warned, its misleading. You simply cannot find that cable on their website. So I called and the guy was nice, but said I had to put a whole kit in the shopping cart, and then take out all the items in the cart except the cable. It's a bad and misleading website. When I get it installed, I will report. I might take pics of the install if you guys care.

They didn't really have it layout all the well but it does take time to make sure you have the right cord and the bluetooth adapter with it. I never use the cord with my iphone and if I do its only to make a quick charge. The sound quality through bluetooth is much better too.
