Prince Valorum's 95 626 Build Thread

My thoughts exactly. Looks like good things are happening for the truck, that will be a nice ride for quite a while.

On another note. Are you going to paint it in your garage Josh?

No, it's too cold and too much of a PITA. If it were summertime, I might try it, but I'd have to drape plastic all over the place to make a make-shift booth and whatnot...

I'm just getting it ready and priming it, then we're going to trailer it to a guy who's gonna paint it.

projects coming along man!!

ford ignitions do the same thing also. i had to replace an ignition in my old fullsize bronco. was the exact same process. just push the little button, and the whole thing pops out. ford then even cut my key to match my doors for me.

Is the painter reasonable on price?

I think he told Wes $300 or so, but honestly, I find that kind of hard to believe. Once the truck is ready to go, I want Wes to call him and make sure they're both on the same page as far as what needs done, so there are no surprises.

Pretty much every ignition i've done is like that in some way, even on these newer cars.

Steering columns > You......:D

Hush, you

Yes, very. I don't need this to be a Barrett Jackson job, ya know? I was referred to him as the guy said "you really get a lot for what you pay for" and he's got like 39 years of experience or something.

Thanks, hah, that sounds like ford did something right for once! :D

He said 300 for paint and 300 for labor, but that's with the truck coming in basically totally prepped and already masked off.

We won't be able to mask it off here though, so I wonder if/how much he'd charge you extra. Even if we could mask it here, I don't think it'd be a good idea anyway. Probably get all full of dirt and whatnot that would find it's way into your paint job.

That's another thing...what about the finished product? Meaning...is the guy buffing it at all? Or is he just going to roll it out of the booth and right onto the trailer? Probably option 2, but what if there are runs everywhere, dirt, solvent pops, fish eyes, etc.? I know he's got experience, but everyone messes up sometimes. lol

Haha. Just want you to know what you're getting from him, so you don't get let down by the final product.

i know on the older 80's/90's mazda's they were bolted to the steering column with two bolts that had a rounded domed head. ive had to remove them before. and had to cut it with a dremel making a slit, then used a big flat head screw driver.

This one was, too. It's that way where it bolts onto the column, but there's that release thing on the housing for the key switch, as well.

That doesn't seem bad. I think I will get the body work done on my P5 and find a way to do the paint work myself. It turns out I had my rose colored glasses on and didn't see all the dents on the passengers side, the scratches I saw but not the dents. Sorry for the thread jack Wes.

No problem, Larry. After becoming more familiar with the painting process, it really doesn't appeal to me at all, between the amount of equipment required to do it right, the cost of materials, and the time involved. And then it's so easy for someone else to mess it up for you when they open a door into you at the store. I guess that's job security for the body guys, haha.

Painting I can do, body work (fixing dents) I just never picked-up no that skill set. My dad was a body man for pretty much my whole life (he is retired now) so a little of that stuff rubbed off on me.
