The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Seems EVERYONE is ALWAYS talking about rear sways around here.

Well most of us do have FWD's, lol. By the time I finally get my car on the track, it's going to be fairly modded. Not because 'because race car' just that's how thing ended up. I do my mods for me, not to set records or anything, or not to stand around at the dyno and brag about my e-dick. Although on that note, I think I solidly secured the lowest dyno of the day. :D

I'll second what everyone else has been saying. Make sure the car is safe, make sure you have fresh brake fluid, and preferably have good brake pads. Other than that, don't change the car until you try it out and see how you like it. Trust me, you will not be setting any records your first time out. I think my first weekend at MidOhio I was about 16 seconds slower than I am now and if my car was set up like it is now I would have died! You will want to concentrate on learning the line and watching flags so the car doesn't matter much. A faster will actually be more frustrating because you will catch up to people faster.

What happens in a FWD car if you push it too hard? Like how RWD's spin out and whatnot.

With the stock RSB you just get huge understeer. It's very 'safe' in that it's predictable. With a big rear bar, things can get more exciting, especially if you let off the throttle mid-corner.

What's understeer? I've heard the term, but can't say that I know what it feels like.

Again though, what's the "worse case" scenario in a FWD car when pushed past it's limit? What happens when you take a turn WAY too fast? Does it spin out too? Or does the front end just slide?

understeer: front end slides, doesn't turn <-- front wheel drive

oversteer: back end slides, turns too much, spins out

With a normal suspension, its not that bad. The front will normally push out.
With a full race suspension on a FWD car the rear will spin out if you: lift off the throttle in a corner, brake too far into a corner, don't get on the gas fast enough in a corner, turn the steering wheel too quickly, etc.

you should come to Nelsons and/or Beave run and ride with someone, get a feel for it.

I don't think I can make BeaveRun, but I just saw someone mention Nelson a few weeks before then. I can probably make that one! Is there a thread up? Who's all going?

Either way, probably quite a ride, huh? haha

Hell, big rear bar and a sharp corner on the street can land you looking the other direction. I've done it... Pablo's done it...

A visual representation of understeer/oversteer helped me figure things out:

Just saying that it sucks ass when it happens, and more common that you may think. Tis all.

Oh no... not at all. Short wheelbase, turbo cars always stay planted...
