I went ahead and disqualified myself from MOTM. heh-heh. Here's the PM I sent Antoine;

MOTM disqualification

"Hey Antoine, unfortunately, I believe I disqualified myself from the MOTM. I posted in the Ohio Random Thread this post;

I read that a lot of members in the MOTM thread are upset that I got so many votes so quickly. I'm very active locally with the Team Ohio Mazda club (we just hosted a cookout, but I didn't talk about the MOTM other than to my photographer.). And I have a lot of followers on my build thread and I also made this post in there;

But those were the only two posts I made about my car in the MOTM contest, honestly. If that disqualifies me, it's completely my fault for not understanding the rules. While I never "campaigned" for MOTM, it does seem like I was from those two posts. And I don't want to seem like I'm cheating. I would rather bring it to your attention through this PM and simply try again in a year (I plan on keeping my P5 for a very very long time) than to have members feel like they are getting ripped off or the contest was fixed.

Of course, I would still like to be in the contest and I have put a lot of hours, money, research and work into my beloved P5 with my own hands in my own garage. But I'll leave that decision up to you, good sir. ~Evan "

It's all gravy. It was my mistake so I'm not mad or anything. I just didn't want to seem like I was cheating. I don't roll like that. Plus like Sean said,
i see what you're doing evan. you felt bad that the speed 3's didnt stand a chance so you disqualified yourself to give them a chance. very noble of you lol

Haha! So I'll get with Wes sometime soon and get some better pics and run again in the future. But again, guys, thank you for the support and the votes. (headbang)

And to get back on topic, I'm going to the junkyard tomorrow morning to get a KL shift linkage and install my Sparco steering wheel I got from Scratch. It looked like the center was brushed aluminum in the pic but it's actually chrome (ack! I hate chrome) so I scuffed it up and painted it semi-gloss black. It turned out pretty well and I'll get some pics this weekend. I also ordered the Megan Racing fuel pressure regulator ($66 shipped from eBay) and need to track down the right belt part numbers for my UR underdrive pulley. I want to slap that on as well. And I still need to figure out the wiring to my oil pressure gauge. It's still reading max value. It should be a busy weekend! :)

get yourself some shifter bushings too. corksport sells them as does a member on PT/mx6.com Colin (CF_Z).

Already have them installed. I think they are Kartboy bushings, the yellow ones. The short shifter and bushing are like the first mod I did a week after I bought the car. haha

Unless you're talking about the bushings that go on the actual shift lever?

Sorry for the MOTM misfortune..those are stupid rules, but they are the rules.

I was talking about the ones that are down on the trans and the ones at the base of the shifter where the through bolt is for the linkage.

I say we all try to re-vote for droopy so they still get out voted by a protege.......
Just run again next time, and you will win. You got more hours in research and hands on then all of them combined. It is easy to bolt on parts that are made to fit but to make something work that was never meant to, deserves more respect. Their will always be complainers just a fact of life, but you know what you got and what it took.

Noble gesture Evan....class act son! Truly a great representative of the Flying M.......you will when hands down the next time you enter and hands down no contest winner

*swoons*

That was a stand up move, mate. It's no wonder so many people follow this thread. The ms3's must be relieved. ;)

About the shifter bushings, I was reading a while ago about the E28, and some of the people just got brass bushings from a hardware store. They last basically forever, and there's zero slop if you get the right size. I'm not sure if this is a case of "stiffer is better" but if it is, that seems to be the ideal solution. I'm not sure how many sizes they come in, though, or what measurements you'd need.

Wes and I ran to Pull-a-Part yesterday and I picked up a shift linkage from Probe GT. He and I cleaned it up a bit and painted it to prevent rust then I slapped it on. The shifter is nice and centered again, yay! It's much easier to shift with it in it's normal location again. HUGE thanks to Forzwin for doing the research and measuring on that for us! Then I changed my tranny fluid with Redline 75w-90. I just used some Valvoline for the break-in period for the transmission. Probably wasn't necessary but I wanted to be safe than sorry. But god I hate the smell of tranny fluid...

Then I installed the Sparco steering wheel. The center was chrome so I scuffed it up and painted it black. I rented a steering wheel puller from Autozone and popped off the P5 wheel, airbag and clock spring so I could mount the new hub and wheel. I don't think I can get it perfectly straight because the teeth are off on the steering shaft but it's pretty close. It's still gonna drive my OCD crazy though. heh-heh. Oh, and I now know what the clock spring does. So now I have to cancel my turn signals manually. No biggie though.

Today I installed the Unorthodox underdrive pulley and new belts. Since I already prepped the blocks aluminum fins, it only took about 30mins to swap them out. I read tons and tons of reviews on ProbeTalk.com and it seems like it's a 50/50 like/dislike on there. But then again, a lot of PT is just "well, my friend said this about _____ product...". I'm more into first hand experience. If you haven't seen the part in person then shut up. I love PT.com but damn there are a lot of newbs on there with bad information. Hell, I'm a newb but at least I don't run around saying s*** that isn't fact or based on real world experience. And I'm done with that rant, forgive me. Anyway, as I posted earlier, Josh welded the screws in the backin plate for me so they aint goin no wheres, yO! A lot of cats buy eBay pulleys, the screws come out and they b****. Well then don't buy cheap s*** and cry when it breaks. Oy. Anyway, so far so good with the Unorthodox pulley. I reset the ECU and let it idle about 5mins (which is still even at 700rpm) and ran down the street to McD's for a samich and soda with a WOT pull into 4th. Everything ran well and no surprises. Though I did stall it in the drivethrough line. haha! But that tells ya there is a difference in rotational mass. Or maybe I just stalled because I don't know how to drive. Regardless, I'll keep a close eye on my electrical devices and headlights to see if there is any problems with charging. Oh, I also noticed I didn't tighten the 10mm bolt holding my crank position sensor in place. It was loose. That would've sucked. Haha

Side by side comparison. I should've weighed them. The UR pulley is SO much lighter.

Here's a decent pic for future reference if anyone does get a pulley for their KL. These are the aluminum and plastic fins you need to shave down with a Dremel.

And I washed the dog and mowed the lawn. So I'm done for the day. It's freaking hot. heh-heh

You don't think I tried that first? Haha. I pulled and pulled and knocked on the corners of the wheel to try to get it loose but to no avail. And I didn't want to damage the P5 wheel in case I sell it.

just for safety concerns, would you consider a 4 or 5 point harness to keep you tied down more since you don't have an airbag now?

i'd just think, since you're getting rid of one safety precaution, you might want to add another one. we don't want you to get hurt! :)

Yeah dude, I say you mod the harness bar to mount to those passenger seat mounts in the back and get some sweet Takata harnesses. I know you were concerned about it not being strong enough if we cut it and re-welded it, but it's just holding a harness. It's not like it's a roll cage.

Yea if you havent already, pick up the harness bar that I used to have. (the solid one) I have a thread somewhere in the P5 section for the right one to get.

I dont care what anyone else says, that bar stiffened up the body... lol

Werd. I need to make sure that 4-points are NASA legal (since another racing member said they aren't anymore) and pick up a bar and harnesses. I don't want to DD 5-points though. Ugh.

I'll get some Scrothe 4-points and that solid eBay bar Cres used to have. I believe it was 42" bar.

Eh... kinda are, kinda aren't...

Effective
May 1, 2011, the only four-point belt systems that are allowed for use in HPDE /
TT are 1) those that carry an “FIA B-xxx.T/98 certification, or 2) those that carry a
label from the belt manufacturer stating that the belts meet Federal Motor Vehicle
Safety Standard (FMVSS) 209 AND that the belts were designated for the
specific vehicle (e.g. “For use only in BMW E36 models”). Such label must be
easily visible to the NASA inspector. Note- four-point belt sets that have a DOT
certification alone are not allowed.

So... unless you meet rule one, you have to find a set of harnesses that say "Designed for Mazda Protege5" which... yeah, I don't think that's gonna happen. The good thing for you is that I'm pretty sure most Scrothe harnesses meet FIA B...
