How hard is it to replace the steering wheel? Mine was worn out when i bought the car. Makes the interior look shabby. Would like to replace with an aftermarket.

Its super easy to remove the stock one. Disconnect the battery. Theres 2 round rubber covers on the side of the steering wheel u will need to pop off. Inside those holes, theres a bolt that will need to come out, its either a 8mm or 10mm. Disconnect the airbag and remove large nut in the center. Then just pull it off

Awesome. Sounds easy enough. Just to clarify, When you remove the two bolts on the side does it allow you to get to the airbag and the large nut in the front?

yes. it's 2 10mm nuts. pull the airbag off then theres a 19 or 21mm nut holding the wheel on. use a hammer to the back of the wheel lightly tapping around the outside back portion.

I have not found a replacement yet. i doubt it will be OEM though, unless someone has one laying around for cheap. Was just looking at aftermarket ones on a few different websites.

mazdaspeed miata, 3-spoke NB miata (and nardi torino), protege5 leather, mazda mp3 steering wheels can be found used on ebay for cheap! they are exact swap and will class up the joint. i have a nardi torino from a miata and all i had to do was swap the wheel and reinstall the airbag. i know you wanted aftermarket but just a thought and it'll save you a few bucks and keep your airbag.

just a note on removing the steering wheel; it just takes some effort to pull off, you may have to wiggle it around. set it in the straight ahead position and you can mark the wheel if you'd like for future reinstallation. a puller is recommended but according to the service manual do NOT hit the shaft with a hammer, the column will collapse.
