JosueP5's '03 Protege5 Build Thread.

I think I pretty much have it covered. If you can think of some off the wall sizes or whatnot that I might not know these cars have, then you can bring those.

Another great day of wrenching!! Got alot done...motor's just about ready to come out. Just have the P/S lines, A/C lines (sorry EPA...hehe) clutch line, axel's, and motor mounts.

Thanks again to my p5 Shidoshi Evan! And to Chris for stopping out and buying my wires!

And the massive load of parts I'm selling. Need to do a little more research on them before I start a for sale thread, so I can price them right.

If anyone has any idea's on this stuff, I'm open to hear!

Well, I thought I had to disconnect the lines from the compressor in order to take the motor out, but in thinking about it, I suppose I could just remove the compressor from the motor all together?

Seems like it'd just be in the way though. We have an A/C machine at work, so I'll just fill it up when I get it on the road.

I've never taken out a motor but it seems to me like you could just unbolt the compressor from the motor and tie it to the car. But if you have access to the equipment to fill it up, it'll only make your life easier with it removed.

Anyway, good work guys! I'm curious to see what's going to be up for sale :)

That's true, you can just ziptie all the A/C stuff to the side. That's what we did for Kevin's 1.8 swap. I don't know what I was thinking... I think I was thinking about my swap where I'm deleting the A/C. My bad, brotha.

Speaking of which, here's a list of parts I would like;
DG rear spoiler
DG mirror covers
1 boxer (the choice is yours)

Parts I'm trading you;
FS-DE
Cruise control module and lines
possibly the complete FS-DE engine bay harness
OEM strut bar (if you want it)

hmmm, what else? I can't remember...

You can keep the fans for the turbo kit. I'll just pick one up at Summit.

I don't use it anyway, it will free up some powa without the compressor pulley, less weight, more airflow to the radiator and less of a headache when swapping the KL. My car will eventually be a track car so it's all gravy. Sorry for the thread jack post, Josh.

All good! Whatever keeps it at the top...hehe

I don't need the strut bar, mine came with the stocker. And, did you want this wideband? We need to experiment with the header as well.

You'll have to fight Steph for a boxer...they're mama's boys!

That makes perfect sense, except for the part where you'll be sweating your balls off :D

TBH, I think I used my A/C 4-5 times last summer so I doubt you'll miss it...

Oooooh, you have a wideband! If it's one of those fancy AEM ones and Evan doesn't take it, let me know what you want for it.

I'll warn you, it's not in the best of shape. The o2 sensor plug is melted a tad (still in tact though) and there are some breaks in the wiring that will need repaired. The price will reflect these imperfections though...

I remembered the wide band and header last night but was too tired to post. heh-heh. I'll still take the wide band (sorry cheese) and you can have my header.

Honestly, it doesn't get too crazy hot here in Cleveland and I think I only used my A/C a few times last year just to keep the compressor running. I don't like robbing the motor of a little bit of powa.

Josh, what did you guys get done yesterday?

Good deal.

Didn't get anything done on the car, but we got my brother's SS out of there! Found a few radiator repair places around, and one that sold reman (used) radiators, but they were jacking me around on it, so I just got him a brand new aftermarket one through work. OEM was over $360, list on this one was $194, our cost was $126! Buttoned everything up, and he's back on the road...

Moved the car over to that spot though. Just waiting on Dave to mail me the lug nut key so I can take the wheels off and get the axles out. He told me he'd mail it out last monday, didn't see anything all week. Texted him yesterday morning about it, and SAID that I needed that to get the motor out, but still haven't heard anything back from him. If I don't see it by the end of the week, I'll just have to buy those universal sockets that rip off any kind of locking lug and then buy new lugs. ugh....

OH...and I discovered that I don't have a ******* clockspring!? That's why the airbag light is on. Why the **** he would remove that ESSENTIAL SAFETY part is beyond me, but this build just got a whole lot more expensive, because those ******* things aren't cheap. I'm pretty pissed about that nice suprise.

Reason is because a good number of the people around nowadays modifying Proteges don't give a s*** about safety. They just do what's cool at the time.

I can see you are moving right along and sux to hear about the clockspring. I had no idea they were so expensive to replace.

No problemo, you actually have a legit use for it. I *might* need a wideband for a project next semester, but I'll worry about that if it gets approved.

What would be the point of removing the clockspring? Did the PO install an aftermarket steering wheel?

It's got a stock wheel on it. Maybe he was messing around installing the column gauge pod and forgot to reinstall it? Or had the column apart when he was splicing into wires for his gauges? That's what's chaffing my ass the most, not knowing why he did the things he did. Not that it matters though, because it's all getting ripped out and redone, it just makes you scratch your head. You guys should've seen the octopus of wires and solder balls under there. Evan and Chris can vouch! Hahaha

Good news is I just checked on a clockspring, and my cost will be under $100, so that's not too awefull. There's 2 different kinds though, and trying to figure out which one I need without the original will be tricky.
