its a royal pain in the ass ! at least if you want bare metal. I tried sanding, stripper, a couple other things. Finaly ended up sand blasting them with a couple different media untill we found one that works. Ill post pics of the painted rims when im done.

its not hard i have the crome rims all i did was sanded down the clear coat of and painted them.

@ manny122

What paint did you use? Is that Duplicolor Graphite with a bunch of clearcoat? And the red M is pretty sweet... Those look very clean!

Cheers,
Ben

That makes it look so much better. May have to do that... Did you just mask up the tires real well or did you take them off?

Its only hard if you want to go down to bare aluminum.

which is pointless, all you need to do is give the paint something to adhere to, by scuffing/sanding the surface.
Ive painted my stock wheels like 6 different colors, it took me max 30 mins per wheel to prep it

and I taped up the tire, worked pretty good

no primer??....i was under the impression to get the best adhesion/outcome, getting down to bare metal to give it a couple coats of primer/rust inhibiting primer was optimal

They're aluminum you will not have to worry about rust. Just get the clear off or chrome and paint.
