Not exactly how you'd want to see your overpriced SUV, huh? lol

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I kinda freaked out, I should have just went to Mazda to start with, but I get tired of paying dealership prices, so I checked other stores and no one had it. It turned out to be 2.30 for the "snap ring" c clip thing, and 9.90 something for the seal. Special ordered, of course, so it'll be here on Monday...

Apparently Ford stops making parts for a car after 3 years. Go figure. Cars don't need parts when they're 3 years old, that's the most retarded logic.

1. Anyone off work on Monday and want to come over and help install coilovers? My dad is taking off work to help, but I would like someone with experience with coilovers...

2. Will I need spring compressors to do this install? If so, I've got to call my neighbor up and get them from his work. EDIT: Nevermind, they are already here in my garage. DOH!

3. What is the name/location/phone number of that place to get an alignment? I need to make an appointment for Thursday. If anyone would like to roll with me to that, let me know!

James, I don't think you need the spring compressors. Since you're replacing everything, you can take out the coil and spring as a unit, and it shouldn't fly apart. That last bit is the bit I'd double check first. ;) lol

and it shouldn't fly apart.
LOL...."and it WON'T fly apart" would sound more convincing...but I have the spring compressors if need be anyways...
Good luck getting your car up and running. Which one is giving you trouble? The Milly? Sorry I haven't been able to keep up with everything on here...it was a crazy week!

It won't fly apart! You will be taking the strut/spring out as an assembly. The rear, not so sure. You may need to secure the springs just to be sure they don't shift unexpectedly. Take your time, as I am sure you will.

Haha, I like to shroud my posts in doubt so no one takes my advice and then gets hurt, lol. I would head over to help you Monday, but I'll be mending my own car, hopefully. It's the 626 that's giving me issues this time. The Miata is in storage for a few more months I think.. :\ It was supposed to be a simple CV shaft replacement on the 626... that turned into a week of disappointment. Ah well, I'll know what to expect next time!

I'd go for it. If it was a manual it'd be the ultimate, so you'll have to swap it once you get it. I dunno, it depends on how you read the carfax. Best case, that first owner traded it in to a dealership, they didn't want to deal with it, and they sold it at auction. That doesn't necessarily mean it was a drug dealer car and was involved in a shootout or something. My buddy works at a used dealer and they send tons of cars to the auction, especially if it's something that's not "high end" enough for their place, or if it's like an STi or something, they don't want to have to deal with the turbo warranty.

The other one, where it got repo'd, that would probably be where someone used it as collateral for their house, filed for bankruptcy, defaulted on the loan, etc. I dunno, I'm not an economics/banking expert, but those things aren't necessarily telling me that's it's abused. Used? sure, it's used.

Honestly, any car will have problems. It's about getting a car that you like well enough that you don't mind fixing the problems that it has and will develop. You might as well enjoy the car if it will be a large chunk of your life, or you'll spend time in it, it has special significance to you, etc. :)

I gotcha.

I guess the main thing that worries me, is it started out its life as a rental for the 1st 24k it seems. But, that doesn't necessarily mean some punk kids were always renting it out and beating the s*** out of it. lol As long as it test drove alright, ran and sounded good, and didn't need anything major, then it could be a nice vehicle.

I'll have to figure out how we'd go about getting it as well. The place is 2.5 hrs from us. I would have to finance the majority of the price, but I can't get a loan out for a car that I don't know how much we're paying for. It would be a b**** to drive 5hrs just to test drive and agree on a price, come home and get the loan, then drive back down to get it!

These will look nice with those massive rear sway bar links...

you don't need to compress the springs, just take the whole thing out. the rears will come off as you take it apart, nothing will jump out of place. What did you end up getting? I', already taking friday off so I can't help you on monday but I can give you some pointers tomorrow
