turbo oil leak

Wow man, there goes the turbo. Might as wel upgrade, go with a T3 and have fun.

No just needs a few minutes of work, mine leaked a bit at the feed line. Just had to tighten it a bit and it was good. The oring gasket is easy but they never have it in stock at the dealer. Try a turbo repair shop, remove the return line and take that in there. They usually give them to me for free.

Do you ever get a chance to install the o-ring and gasket? If so, it would be great if you could let us know how it went, as in any surprises? Also, did this fix the problem you identified?

yes it was a peice of cake i still got to change the gasket so ill take some pics and my do a how to. and it did fix my leak.

I changed out the o-ring and block gasket this weekend, with a little over 50,000 miles on my car. The installation was straightforward, but in a few instances I wish I had a third arm, as it would have made reinstalling the hex bolts a bit easier. It took a little less than an hour from start to finish, including gathering tools and putting them away.

For ease of reference, I thought I would include both part numbers in this thread—thanks BOOSTR!

o-ring: 0000-88-C22
metal gasket: N3A1-14-293

I order the parts last Thursday afternoon from my favorite Mazda dealer, and I picked them up Saturday morning. The total cost of both parts, including tax, was $7.44

Was a simple fix, took an hour or so for me also, start to finish. 12.50 for gasket and o-ring from mazda. Will be keeping an eye out to make sure it isnt leaking anymore.

When you guys had this issue, was there oil caked up on top as well? Or do I have more of a problem? I can post a pic if necessary. Should I just go ahead and change the o-ring, clean off the oil and see if that solves it? It doesn't look like there's any oil leaking from the gasket at the block.

Last time I had it at the dealership, the only thorough tech that works there noted "turbo oil seepage". He didn't say it was critical, but I want to get it taken care of.

Also, (maybe a dumb question, but I haven't worked on the turbo before) do you have to drain the oil before taking off the oil line?

no air moves around teh turbo and making the leak "wick" up the the side of the turbo so to speak. The gasket on the block generally isnt a common leaking spot. Just remove the line and replace both seals. The oring goes on the turbo side. You might have to take a small pick or something to get the old rubber ring out which might be so hard that it appears to be plastic or metal. And no you dont have to drain anything.

I have noticed some oil leaking from the turbo down onto my s-pipe. I already bought a replacement, but if it is a simple issue like this that's still great because I can sell it as fully functional with no leakage

thats exactly what im gonna do when i install my gt28rs, i bought it cuz the turbo was leakin oil and i did research and signs point to just an o ring, so the turbo itself isnt leaking at all and is still functional

Pretty simple and straightforward, just not much room to work. The o-ring was hard as a rock!

Yeah you will get it all over. You may want to pull the feed line out and put some teflon tape on there because it could also leak alittle. Keep in mind that it doesn't take alot of oil to make a complete smuggy mess.

edit: here is one that you could replace
gasket info: part #N3A1-14-293 for the flange on the block

Mazda should be able to look it up once you give them a description because I assume you are asking for the one on the turbo, not the one on the block, although I would replace both while I was under there.
