If they keep similar gear/rpm ratio in the 6MT (and now mated with the 163ft/lbs torque) it cannot really a wow, yet a decent improvement. I guess not much cash for Mazda5 R&D for this market. It is like: we Mazda HQ have the JDM, Asian and European markets figured out, and you have a 2.5L engine from the Mazda3/Mazda6, now do some magic
the 2.5L in the mazda6 makes 170 hp. the funny thing is how the mazda site, if you check the specs, it says 153 hp for the 2.5L in the 5. i think that is a typo. looks like 157 should be it, but only 4hp for .2 more liters of displacement is really weak.

^^ Yeah, I'm assuming it has to do with the "retrofit" of the current exhaust configuration. now those extra 15ft/lbs are still welcome for this type of car

PRO: There is modding opportunity to get some of that HP back!
CON: You'll spend money just to get what it *should* be producing!
The MSRP for the 2012 Mazda 5 GS in Canada will be $21,795... a $1,000 increase. But air conditioning with automatic climate control is now standard.
GT will get HIDs, TPMS, and a dark silver front grille vs. black grill on the GS.
Fuel efficiency is about the same in the city and better on the highway for both manual and automatic transmissions.

Does anyone know anything about the special edition Mazda5 on the stand at that LA show? The video on the Mazda site of the 2012 reveal mentions it(at the 4 minute mark), but no details. The guy said something about seeing it at Laguna Seca, possibly hinted at racing it? I couldn't find anything on the web at all.

Nope, but it might be similar to the MAZDASPEED2 concepts they did to promote the Mazda2? Nothing serious, just they tour them around the shows...
The 2012 Mazda 5 was featured in this weekend's Fraser Valley Auto Mall newspaper.
The view of the 5 from this angle is REALLY attractive if you ask me. Very in-yo-face.
$24,395 for the 2012 GT ($200 less than the outgoing model), which loses the moonroof and pull out second row tray(both now part of the now $1,790 Luxury Package, was $1,295) and close assist sliding doors (kaput completely) but gains HIDs, TPMS, and Sirius satellite radio (for those who don't have a phone that can stream radio and plug it into the Aux-In I guess).
The $845 Convenience Package for the 2012 GS is practically the same as the $1,295 Comfort Package in the outgoing model except there is no extra speakers and DSC/TC is now standard. The Trip Computer might be nice but some of us might have the more useful ScanGaugeII?
Can we assume that the Automatic Transmission is still a $1,200 upgrade on both?

Canada and the US have different packages, basically US Sport = Canadian GS, US Touring = Canadian GT, US Grand Touring = Canadian GT with Luxury Package, with a few differences in the packaging of course, and still the ability to get any Canadian trim level with the now 6 speed manual or 5 speed automatic.
The US spec sheets don't note anything about the pull out tray, but I think in Canada they moved the tray and moonroof up to the Luxury Package so that the GT could come standard with HIDs. I hope it's the same HIDs from the 3 that turns up to 15 degrees with the steering wheel.
I noticed that Cruise Control is now standard on the US Sport model while still an upgrade in Canada as part of the Convenience Package.
Heated seats on the Canadian GT either with cloth or leather seats. (breakn)

Oh lol I didn't know! I thought it was an upgrade. You guys get the good stuff! But at least A/C and ACC is now standard in Canada... I can't imagine a 5 without the A/C.
I think I may have to get one of these 2nd gen Mazda 5s for the 2013 model year... the 2007 will be the space wagon rocket (I have plans for it this spring!), the 2013 will be the GT luxury cruiser.

we may get the good stuff, but you guys have the option of a manual in all models.

not bad, but that big ugly piece of black plastic on the rear bumper looks like crap.
