Mounted to the car body also? Mine's simply bolted to the block below the crank. The compressor should have no connection to the car body.

Can you post a pic of this? This would be interesting. I don't understand why/how it is a good idea to mount the compressor to block AND the body.. and can see how this could transmit more noise than necessary. Is this a stock US spec Mz5 or Mz3? Silly questions but I'm assuming no one tried to tamper with the mounting location to, for example, try and fit turbo piping/componets or some kind of aftermarket accessory? It is possible that Mazda release this odd ball but pics are worth a thousand words. It is with a bushing (at least the one I have in the shop with the engine out). The compressor has 2 bolts that mount directly to the bottom of the block and a bracket with a bushing that mounts to the body of the car.
I thought something was amiss when I kept hearing the buzz when the compressor was engaged, but looking at it, I now see why it is noisy.
I certainly can't envision where it could bolt to the body, as the pulley is in the front and it can't attach there. There's no other body location that the compressor is even near. I think ours is actually bolted to the oil pan, not the block like I last stated. Either which way though, it's definitely NOT to the body.
BTW, why is your engine pulled on an '09?
I've got to see a picture, because we've all assumed that the Mz3 2.3L is identical to the Mz5 2.3L, and what you describe is not the same.
