Phen's China Adventure

Very few buildings in China has Central AC. Usually it is 1 ac unit per room. Which is actually smarter and more efficient.

Have u seen people's underwear and stuff getting hung outside to dry yet?

i'm going to sub on this one in part to my love of peiking duck and the fact that when i was jobless i had an addiction to the travel channel so this is like a long term show lol

Oh absolutely. Hell, I've seen mine hanging out on my balcony when I got home. The company provided a maid for the building. She comes every day and cleans the entire place. They said if we gave her like 50 RMB per week on top of her regular pay from the company, she'll be really happy

5:15am. I'm getting ready to go golfing.

Oh ya u getting use to the 1 time zone in all of china?

Also if u have a chance get some hot and dry noodles. they are my favorite breakfast food.

Another thing, if you go to a bar bring ur US passport. You will see 10 time more gold/US Citizenship digger than in the US.

Finally try some Jack Daniels and green tea. That stuff is great.

Have you made it out to a local food market? That's always been my favorite with all the dried pig snouts and the feet off of 90% of the known animals for sale, plus other assorted goodies.

I need to find a bar to go to first. One of the guys I'm here with isn't a drinker at all. I have to wait until the one boss comes back to find where all the good ones are. Haha.

I will definitely try Jack and Green Tea. I've had Captain Morgans and green tea back home, but it probably doesn't hold a candle to it here.

Not yet, unfortunately. We were going to today, but we golfed 27 holes instead of the expected 18 and we were beat by the end.

The bars are awesome...They are usually a mix of bars and night clubs. Very limited typical American bar and grill type of places. Find a 酒吧街 (Bar Street). Whole street of ONLY bars and clubs. And yes, it's true, gold diggers to the max. Go to high class club and whip out the passport haha

Hahaha. I'll have to keep that in mind.

Update: Aug 28

We went golfing at Beijing Country Club. Holy s*** is that place nice. So, we golfed 27 holes. They give you a cute Chinese girl as a caddy. They know just enough English to ask what club you want, give you suggestions, whatever. Anyway, so we golfed, and if you make a bad shot, those caddies will search and search and search until they find your ball. I would have given up on a couple of them. I thought one was going to go into the water to find it. No BS. After all of the golfing (you walk), we tipped the caddies 100 RMB (about $15) grabbed a sandwich, and we were on our way. By the time we got back to the apartments, I was so damn tired from the golfing that I took a nice shower, sat down on the couch, and passed out for about 2 hours. Woke up, made some dinner, watched a little TV, walked around the compound and went to bed.

Aug 29: Rather boring day in comparison to the rest. I spent most of the time just reading different things for work and reviewing documents. I figured I'd get ahead of the game before the real work started coming in.

Oh, the outlets here accomodate the US plugs, but you have to make sure the device is rated for up to 230 VAC. It's higher voltage and 50 Hz here.

Yeh, most comps and stuff works. If you get an outlet strip, the US plugs with grounds will fit too.

I didn't have my camera or my cell phone with me so I wasn't able to get pics. haha.

lol

You have to try mc Donalds and see the difference between china and USA. Japan and Korea have 100x better food quality and presentation.

There's actually a McDonalds about 2 blocks from my apartment. I was considering it earlier today...
