Just rolled over 90k. Fluids, plugs, air filter, batterey, tires, and brakes are all good. Just wondering if I am missing anything.

My mechanic said the motor mounts are going out. Sound right? And if so, how much for install on something like that??? I did a thread search and will most likely go with the awr set if need be.

Timing belt and possibly water pump at 105k from what I read.

Anything else that might come up besides the transmission?

Wondering if it may be time to trade in on a newer mazda or keep this one as it has been bullet proof.

just get a flashlight and look at the mounts and see if they are starting to rip. Front and sides are easy to see. The rear you may have to lift the car up to see it with a flashlight. Front and sides are easy to install and actually can be done yourself. The rear is a PITA. But any shop should be able to do them for a pretty decent price. I did my front and sides myself using an impact and I had a local performance shop do the rear mount for about $40 while I watched to make sure they didn't do anything shady.

You must have connections or something, because you won't find a price like this anywhere else. Even the flat rate for the rear mount is 0.7 hrs (which I can't believe), which is about $70. Most shops will charge you at least $100, but IMO, it's worth it. I changed my rear mount myself, and it took me 4 hours.

yeah, I sort of have a good relationship with a few shops in my area but I wouldn't think that prices would be that much higher for other shops. I mean, it's not like they are tearing into the motor or anything or changing out major parts. Getting to the mount is kind of time consuming but overall, it isn't that bad, especially when using an impact.

What's an hour of labor down there run? I'm sort of bummed - the last shop around here that I knew of with sub-$100 labor rates just went up to $105/hr last week.

Not sure if you were referring to here or not, but, shops here in the bay area, CA can run $100-$120 an hour. I like the guy I currently go to, but he charges European shop rates (I use to own a couple of Porsches). I am debating whether or not to have the work done, or trade the thing in on a mazda2. Preferably I would like to keep my car and upgrade the mounts assuming they need fixing. However, it is looking like that would be around $600 to do. At 90k, with a timing belt around the corner, and anything else that could go wrong, I am not sure. If I knew the car would be faithful I would go ahead and keep it. It is kind of at that point though.(gah)

its pretty easy to do your self.. bolt on bolt off. that is if you have an engine hoist or a way to keep that motor propped up. while doing the front and rear motor mounts.
