Hypertech Max Energy Sport CAI Update Now Available!

Thanx for the spell check guys.. LOL, Wish the made one for my wifes Saab.. The only option for her is to send the ECU OVN for a two day return.. :/

Not trying to jack the thread, but if your wife's Saab is turbocharged, Saab usually has an upgrade ECU option, or at least did when I owned a 9000T. You could get the "Red Box" as a factory upgrade that raised boost to about 15 psi. You had to also upgrade the fuel pressure regulator at the same time because of increased fuel demand. All that stuff was available right out of their catalog at the time. I'm sure that if Saab doesn't do this anymore, there are aftermarket ECU programs or flashes for her car. (I've owned three turbo Saabs and a turbo Volvo before this MS3).

Sorry for thread jack.

The AP is a true tuning device and if you have the ATR SW or a local tuner that has it, you can customize and adapt to whatever mods you have. The Hypertech unit is a set tune with only options for the CAI you use. You cannot do a custom tune for it.

I was looking for something to give me a nice safe performance boost with my limited mods and the Hypertech worked for me. if I was planning on continuing to mod this car, especillay with aftermarket FMIC, TMIC, down pipe, bigger turbo, etc, then the Cobb might be a better choice.

i have a Cobra habit that I am supporting as well and it gets the majority of my mod money and go fast time. It is custom tuned and gets retuned as I add mods. On my Speed3, I am done with power mods now.

so honestly...what is the difference between this and cobbs tuning device besides the obvious things? not trying to sound ignorant or prove anything...i own an accessport and want to know what the scoop is.

Just like 92 Couper said!

Well the install was a breeze, Had to download the update on my PC first then to the tuner, Then the flash to the car took all of 4 mins. :) Frist impressions are good, Part throttle defintly feels better pulls a lot harder, I actually got torque steer preety hard in 2nd. Up top pulls good I pulled to 6k, and still felt strong. I really dont think I will be up that high to often, I will stay around 5500-5600. I did not change my rev limiter at all, Just removed the 0-60 throttle and picked the Cork Sport intake for my cobb. Will have to drive some more..

No worries ay all..LOL They do have flashed but we have to send the ECU out PIA big time..I wish there was an option like this for her car. :/

This sounds promising. I may go this route since I only have a cs sri/tip and cs tp and dpnt want to go crazy with this car.. Any others out there with some more reviews??

You can always try your SAAB luck here... A very good Swedish company, with extensive knowledge of tuning.

Thanx man been looking at the BSR stuff but $900 USD for it is EHH. If can get myself to send the ECU out I can get a JZW tune for $450 shipped back an forth OVN.. SO half for the same numbers ,But lose the car for three days.(gah)

Results

Well I thought the car felt pretty good after adding the Hypertech programming so I decided to take it to a local shop and see what she would put down on the dyno. It was a Dynojet 224 and it was 80+ degrees outside. I did pulls in both 4th and 5th gear and the results were about the same. Car made 278 whp and 308 lb-ft.

Not bad for a 2008.5 MS3 sport with Cobb SRI, PG TIP, eBay test pipe, forge BPV and Hypertech programmer.

nice!! Thanks a lot man

What are the AFR's looking like on those that have used this?

Sounds nice and dandy but I want to see what's going on behind the scenes too. I think it's like If you want a near perfect tune go to a tuner if not Hypertech is good enough to hold you over until you are ready for a pro tune. Logs would be great.

I will know tomorrow. I'm having my wideband installed in the morning. I was using an old school, AF( Lean, Storch, Rich).. An only drove the car for two days. Plus I drive like Miss Daisy most of the time.. LOL

so is boost still limited in 1st 2nd and 3rd with this device?

GoSpeed3,

The programmer has a "0-60MPH Electronic Throttle Restriction" option. If you select "Yes" to remove this restriction, the tune removes the limits in 1st and 2nd gear. A lot of our customers aren't as knowledgeble about the tuning on these cars as you are, so we use this explanation to make it easier for Joe Public to understand what the modification does, since this is what it feels like behind the wheel.

With the Hypertech tuning, the boost cut and load cut limiters are tuned to allow for mods, but are left in place to protect the engine from a mechanical failure that may cause destruction if these limiters are removed. With the air mass calculations correctly measured, these limits can be used just like the factory tuning uses them.

So we raise them, but we don't max them out.
