Help guys, for those who have canadian GT. Mine is 2007 GT MT and I was having problem with my HID shutting off, but will turn on again if you restart the car. I'm trying to avoid restarting the car and tried just turning the headlights off and I noticed that it won't turn off even if the switch is off. Is this normal? Please advise. TIA

Perhaps you could be more specific about the problem.

Have you installed an aftermarket HID system?

I have an 07' Canadian GT MT. I park in the garage at home. When I start the 5, the lights come on automatically, including the dash lights. After backing out of the garage, the lights go off and only the daytime running lights are on. At twilight, the lights come on again.

In 9 months of ownership, I have never used the headlight switch.

Give us a step-by-step description of the problem, including all details, and we will try to advise.

Canadian models have Daytime Running Lights (DRL) using the lo-beam. That mean whenever the car is running the DRL will be on which also means your lo-beam HID lights is also working as DRL and will be on. So, you will not be able to switch your HID lights off when the car is running. On my 06 4AT with lo-beam HID conversion, when the car is running, the DRL (HID) lights will go off when I use/pull on the emergency brake. Try putting on the emergency brake when the car is running to see if the HID light will go off.

Sorry forgot to ask how you did your HID conversion, because HID ballasts will not work properly with the DRL circuit. You willl need a relay harness and a capacitor on the relay to have your HID conversion to work properly. I have seen people splicing the relay to the side running lights so the HID will only turn on when the side running lights are on. If you want to see my HID conversion experience here is the link to my thread.

Yes Aftermarket HID, thanks so this is normal. I had the car for 3 yrs and I never touched the light switch till now.

Thanks, that works for now till I put in the new 55watts HID I ordered.

If I may ask, what will the capacitor do? will it make the HIDs brighter? I dont have problem with flickering, I use a harness, the + terminal goes to the oem plug and the - terminal goes straight to ground, I also grounded the red ground wire that comes with the harness.

The stock DRL in the DRL mode will turn the original halogen lights off and on very quickly to reduce the light output. When the lo-beams comes on, the full battery voltage is applied to the halogen lights for maximum brightness.

In my case I connected the 2 coil terminals on the relay from my HID harness to the OEM lo-beam socket. So, during the day in DRL mode the car will turn the relay off and on very quickly and thus causing the HID lights to flicker. The capacitor across the relay's coil terminals stabilizes the voltage across the coil terminals and keeps the relay on to stop the HID from flickering.
