MS3 vs. GTI on Motorweek 3/13/10

I'd buy a used GTI R20 when they come over. They will be like 30k+ new so that's just too much for a GTI, R model or not.

ew...saturn. Just screams quality. Fortunately Saturn is sleeping with the fishes.

I just like the looks of it more than any other hatch. And while saturn is dead, opel and vauxhall are not.

Now THERE'S a hatch that (pains me to say this) doesn't suck

The Focus RS is nice but something about the rear styling puts me off, an overall winner though.

If I had to pick one it'd be the Renault Megane r26r

chassis and motor yes, everything else no.

But GTI's "refinement" is just a way of saying that the MS3's superior abilities in just about every measurable performance is too raw for more genteel, pansy types. Sorry, call me raw. I'll wear that badge with honor while pulling steadily away from the GTI.

yep, i buy a car and one 4k cheaper (and just as 'refined' for my money) outruns the crap out of it, i'm not gonna be very happy with my purchase.

i could see the MS3 vs. GTI argument more if they were more competitive in price, which they aren't.... and yes, i do believe they spend more time in the shop than our muzdas. i base this on personal experience with two friends who've owned them.

'my GTI would win on the track'.....

yeah, but you won't beat ME on the track... hehehehehe. driver-mod (what a funny term) means a lot with all of that talk.

I checked out and test drove a '10 GTI. I really liked it, looks good, drives good. I put it near WOT 1st thru 3rd and thought to myself... "can I really go back to a car this slow?" At the time I was running an AP so my boost was around 19psi so I could really feel a difference. I'm looking to speed things up as it is, not the other direction.
I ended up just keeping my '07 MS3.
The GTI was nice but only if it's LESS than the MS3 in my opinion. I don't consider it an upgrade by any means.

What do they call "rice" or "boy racer" in Eurospeak? I don't care how quick it is. If they don't have a sleeper version of that body, I'll never sit my ass in the driver's seat. Thing looks like some kind of Matchbox toy, IMHO.

MS3 is a faster car, GTI is a nicer car; period. Obviously stock for stock especially, but with enough dough anything can be stupid fast (they make a ton of stuff for VW's of course).

Doesn't matter either way to me; I'll prolly never own a front wheel drive car again. This after my car just turned 7yrs old. Just don't want stupid car payments.

I'm not the biggest fan of the graphix but I'm sure they're vinyl. I like something a little crazy and different. I'd definitely put black wheels on it, though.

Im partial to the euro focus rs, or the old peugot clio v6 (even though the drivability was bad).

And im sure the vw will beat out mazda

Me too, if it were sold in the US.

BTW: We share the platform and a lot of parts with the Euro Focus RS, but they get a 5 cylinder Volvo sourced engine and about 40 more horses.

I love my MS3, but there's just something about that focus that makes me go mmmmm!!! (besides the performance that is)

If the Focus RS ever landed in North America I would probably jump ship and get it.

You guys outta check this out:

Oops.. I goofed the date. Should be 3/6/10. Updated first post, but cannot edit thread title.

Admin/Mod, help?

actually just watched the episode today....of course they didn't really pick a winner per se, but i think they were leaning towards the gti

of course, if you are strictly a stock person the ms3 would be the way to go. but if you were a tuner and just wanted more power i think the vw would be the best choice because the suspension and driveability is already "better" than the mazda's

and i was very, very surprised at the price difference between the 2. like $50 difference.
