Is there any books out there you all recommend to read to help me in taking pics? I read the manual and im wanting something that starts at the very basics of picture taking.

I took a beginner photography class to understand the basics of the camera pertaining to what the aperature does, proper framing of subjects, lighting, etc. Helped a lot. Some photography supplies places offer classes for pretty cheap as well. I seem to learn easier from hands on with classes and talking about the stuff rather than reading from a book and not understanding what they're saying.

The 50D is excellent within that range. Coupled with a wicked lens, it's awesome. Plus he had a lot of light to work with so the exposure is easier to correct.

My friend held his first workshop a few weeks ago with a great turnout. He just did it at his house. Sets up a projector, some slides, some teaching material etc.
A lot of camera stores have flyers or info on upcoming workshops and stuff.
Here's one of the last weddings I did as a 2nd shooter.

Interesting, I will have to test that out. With my d40 I can't view a real-time histogram, but can view a 3 channel RBG histogram during image review. So ill have to take some test shots then choose the exposure that is correctly "to the right". I wont be able to use this all the time, but when I have time and the photo needs to come out just right, this should help.

ummmmmm I think you're missing the point.
The point is that if you expose properly, you can shoot at very high ISOs without much noise. I basically shoot to blow out a very small portion of the photo. then I look at the blinking bits and the luminance histogram after I shoot and decide if I need to reshoot. No need to view a live histogram. Just shoot a couple of test exposures and go from there.

the show was Jeremy Camp (in the picture), the afters, chasen, and jason gray. My fiancee works at the station here.
Good bands!! I have seen them all before!! I bet that was a fun concert. Looked pretty small too so that makes it even better.

Hollywood...lotus is sick man!
Yeah it was in a church just south of us. it was fun, but I was kind of volunteering, so I didn't really get to stay in there and enjoy the concert. I was setting stuff up or taking pictures or tearing stuff down. It was still fun though!
