DDM Tuning Apexcone Raptor HID Kit - $30 plus shipping

Oh yeah, I forgot to post the pics of my lights. Who still has 56k dialup anymore?

Low beams are 5000k, fogs are 3000k.

Both, flash:

Yes, the car is full of salt. This is a Wisconsin winter... comes with the territory.

Also, the pics are hosted at photobucket, where they won't put a strain on the forum's servers (yippy)

Fantastic Pictures! That really helps me make my decision! Do you feel the HID fogs are worth the extra money and hassle to install? I'm new to the P5, and was somewhat disappointed to see that the standard fogs didn't really project out at all. I love the 3000K bulbs. Do you have amber lens protectors on there too or is that just the yellow of the 3000K?

fogs are not intended to project out... sounds like you want a driving light, not a fog light. thats the yellow of a 3000K HID. if you look at that pic, most of the light from the fogs is within about 30' of the car... a LOT of it from 10-15'.

Wagonbacker9 pretty much nailed it right on. A lot of the light is within 10-15' of the car, while some still travels pretty far past that. I have yet to drive in some pretty crappy weather since I put them on, like tons of rain or snow.

I like how the yellow kind of blends with the headlights on the road, so the color isn't very distracting. As for the hassle, not that much different from changing the original bulb. The worst part I would have to say is finding a spot to secure the ballast, which wasn't too much of a problem for me.

technically, probably not. but you're a lot more likely to get busted for HID headlights.. honestly I seriously doubt a cop would ever go after you for HID fogs.

Well here in the Orange County, CA area, cops are real punks. Got pulled over and harassed just yesterday at the mall for no reason at all. Gonna file a harassment complaint cause I'm just sick and tired of cops being a more menace to society than a help. Been pulled over 30 times plus since my teen years.

Though I still want those yellow HIDs, just hope it doesn't land me a ticket.

I think they'd have to bust out a light meter to even TRY to write you a ticket... and since its a fog pattern... it should be too dispersed to violate any laws.

When headlights cold both passenger/driver fire on perfectly.
If I turn on headlights while still warm from previous driving, the passenger will flash on and shut down right away. When this happens I turn the lights on and off repeatedly until the passenger light stops turning off and stays on.

Note:: I found on DDMTuning a misfire troubleshoot note and went to microman77 for tips.

Code:
Intermittent firing
[LEFT]If sometimes one side does not turn on or it takes multiple tries for
the HIDs to turn on, you may have a power issue. We would recommend trying a
wiring harness. This will allow you to wire the kit directly to the
cars battery. Sometimes if you bump your fuse by 5amps that can help
as well. If the problem stays with one particular side, we would
recommend swapping the bulbs or ballast from left to right and see if
the problem follows. If this is the case, you may have a bad bulb or ballast.

If you have the HID Harness installed and are still getting intermittent
firing, double check your power and ground cables. Make sure the
terminal is touching the "threaded" part of the bolt and not just the head
of the bolt.[/LEFT]

Maybe u do need that wire harness kit. Won't hurt to have it anyways. :)

+1... however I wonder if its not a ballast/igniter issue. also, does turning the car on/leaving the car off change the result when you have this problem? this will change the voltage the ballast is getting, which at least MIGHT be part of the problem.

Interesting...I've read other similar problems, such as HIDs only firing
BEFORE the car is started.

One thing you don't want to do is repeatedly turn the lights on and off in quick succession. That is a sure-fire way to kill a ballast, especially if it's already
dying.

strange... maybe the igniter doesn't like something about the alternator's output? I would imagine the higher voltage would be preferable... but.. thats being said without intimate knowlege of the electronics in the ballast/igniter.

I have the full harness on my car, and other than blowing a ballast (kit bought used) I have had no problems. My gf's car is just right off the headlight harness, has been on there for about a month now I think, also, no problems.

I decided to get a pair of JDM yellow luminics bulbs instead of HIDs. They were 15 bucks cheaper, and I don't really need all that more visibility. Also when you flash your high beams in the MS3 the fogs shut off automatically... so I don't want to burn out HID fogs because I find myself flashing my brights a lot.

sounds like a great excuse to rewire your fogs LOL
+2 on fog rewire. My fogs are independent of lo beams but hi's still cut them off. 1 wire mod. Did lo beam HIDs in the car & turning on lo's/hi's & fogs then flashing the brights only toggles between brights/fogs like police action, lol. The lo beam HIDs stay on no matter what. On my truck tho, my fogs are independent of lo's or hi's so HIDs went in the fogs. The truck is prerunner lifted 3" so with HIDs in fogs they shine better than the lo's did before. The projector lo beams look like flash lites compared to the fogs now but with brights & fogs is super bright distancewise & near since the housing for lo's/hi's didn't have to be pointed way down like in the car. In the car the brights shine like fogs since the housing holds both HID lo's & hi beams. Just play around with them to get whatever combo works best & simple rewires can free you from oem light function limitations FTW.

i can vouch for this kit... although it is very cheap I have had no problems with mine and when snooping around doing research in various places that these were essentially the exact same kit as the 100 kit on ddmtuning except this one is only a 1 year warranty.

I want to get the exact set-up ahs Azuelke has on his black protege 5.
Does anyone know which HID's he ordered from DDM....?

Also, how difficult is the install for the fog lights....?
I would like to get the Raptor kit, but was told by many places that the best lasting HID's are the German brands. Does anyone have these....?

I've been selling HID kits for several years and I'm familiar with most major brands. I can tell you that no matter what brand name is on the kit the parts are nearly always made in China. There are only a handful of HID bulb manufacturers and I don't know of any that aren't made in China.
I'm sure they exist, I just don't know who they are.
