sorry to revive this thread but i tought it would be better than making a new one anyway...

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I've got pics with instructions on another one. I was just scouting around for instructions to install projector lights in the fogs. Check mine out: http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?p=4898831&posted=1#post4898831

And let me know if anyone has experience installing projectors into the fogs and what it involves.

Hey Everybody,

Quick Question: (sorry if it's already been asked.. couldn't find it)

Do the HID bulbs still get held in with the flimsy retaining clip?

I just purchased a 2002 P5 and noticed that the headlights were way out of whack (low beams were aimed higher than high beams). I figured out that the problem was that the low beam bulb wasn't sitting tight against the headlight. As I went to adjust stuff, the plastic on the "hinge" side of the metal wire retaining clip crumbled and now I have no way to hold the bulb in place. I was considering switching over to HIDs anyway.. Will I still need to find a fix for holding my bulb in place?

Thanks.

Yup, you will need it anyway... well my HIDs bulbs are held in place with the stock little metal clip.

ok. That's kind of what I figured. Looks like I have some work to do then. Thanks!

np, sorry for ya but if i was you i would go to the scrapyard to get a new clip.

I've actually got the wire clip. There's just some issue with how the clip mounts to the headlight. I need to get a better look at it with some daylight. I could probably fix the problem, but I think I'd have to take the headlight out to really get in there and fix it right, and I'm just short on time and talent to do that.

FYI: You should make sure you have lots of time to take the headlight out. I had to take my headlight out because I lost the screw for the clip and a screw bit in the housing. It took me a few hours total because you have to take the whole bumper off. Not a hard job, but it was very time consuming.

i hate that dam clip, i want to buy a whole new headlight just because of that
s*** is so annoying, i have to unscrew the clip and take the bulb out, then screw the clip in carefully so it doesnt pop out
i have to do all this with the bumper and the headlight off of the car

thats a bad design by mazda

i don't have anything to unscrew to get my bulbs out, i don't understand what your talking about?

mine is broken, thats why i have to unscrew it lol
the clip is help to the headlight with a screw and when i was doing to the first bulb change i ever did, i broke the clip on that side, like the plastic part on the headlight that lets the clip rotate
so now if i want the clip to hold i have to remove the screw to remove the bulb and screw it back in to get it to hold

you shouldnt have to worry about that though, since thats just what i have to do because i broke mine lol

Yep, sounds just like what happened with mine too. Happened less than a week after I purchased the car. Hooray for great design!

i attempted putting hyundai tiburon fog projectors in the stock fog housings.

Here's what it required to fit

First had to machine up a set of busted fogs to fit the projectors

Then they wouldn't fit without a little *encouragement*

then i gave up and sold em and went with projector foglights in the lower grille like so
