im a noob to protege's but not a noob to fine tuning lol. what the widest wheel width that can fit on the front and rear of a p5.

note:
front needs to fit comfortably. rear can be tight. where is the offset police?

thanks

8" in about a 45 offset is the best you'll do. may require some fender rolling to go lowered or take a large load in the back.

is that with stretched tires? that cant be right.....it seems an 8.5 would fit in the rear and still clear coilovers. again im a protege noob so i do apologize but i thought i might be able to fit a staggered setup

you may be able to get more than an 8" wheel, but you won't get much more than a 225 tire back there so I guess if you want more wheel but not more tire I don't understand.

basically say if a 8.5 width wheel can clear the suspension and sit flush with the fender/possibly poke out a mm or 2 a, a narrower tire like a 205/40/17 can be stretched to fit on the wheel. the purpose is to achieve maximum "flushness" for lack of a better lol using ideal offsets and wheel stretching while still maintaining functionality

for example.....

my car is in another state for the moment so i dont have access to my car to properly measure things out hence the reason for this thread. im hoping someone has already gone through all of this for a p5 and can enlighten me on their findings!

its a mazda protege, not an audi or something high end, personally I think "hellaflush" looks retarded. if anything, just go with a lower offset wheel, wider isn't going to accomplish anything.

I was running 17x8 wheels with 205-40-17 with 35mm offset.
front had no issues.
rear rubbed a little.

Offset is the key.
I love the flush look. I think it shows that you went the extra mile to get proper fitment, and also shows detail matters.
mostly when your investing thousands of dollars into wheels you want the best of the best in ever aspect.

shi-fu jay thanks man! thats exactly what i was looking for. im a sucker for proper fitment and thats something that i never neglect. did you do any fender roller with those sizes?

i disagree, your right in the sense that its nothing high end....it was cheap and makes for an excellent daily driver. i have no plans on making my p5 a fast and furious race machine i just want to make my daily driver look more put together. thus, wider wheels will make the fitment look more flush coordinated with proper ride height. sorry im not into half-ass fitment...to each's own

with the 17x8 and 205-40-17 tires 35mm offset all around.
just a tad bit of camber would have been golden for clearance and the rubbing issue.
or if you dont want camber added, just get the fender pulled a tiny bit.
My rear fenders are rolled FLAT of course. front fenders are untouched.

with that wheel set up. 205-40 tires would be the max you would want to run.
of course running the Falken Ziex would be best for the stretch.
I was also considering 195-40 but are hard to come by. I love stretch, on a dumped ride of course...meaning tire tuck.

My current set up (3 spokes) is about 3mm pushed in compared to my last one.
they are 16x7 with 25mm offset. but I went with the wrong tire size, so its killing me with the rubbing issue on the REAR only.
205-50-16 profile tires.

And you gotta love how the protege fenders are. its like a mini wide body, mix that with an aggressive wheel setup. the car looks intimidating.

its all about offset

I wish I had my DSLR while I was at the shop.

yah that fitment looks solid. i wanted to measure things out to try and fit a 16x8 or maybe even a 16x8.5 in the rear and slam the p5 lol

if you have a width in mind. Take into consideration of what size tire you want to run. and from there see what your options are with the offset.
clearance from outer wheel to fender?....
clearance from inner wheel to strut?.....

Use my setup as a start base. from there, mess with the setup a little.
use the offset calculator.
and tire calculator.

it'll all make sense the more you play with it.

ive had some ridiculous setups before im just way too lazy and busy to measure things out haha i used to run 17x9 +5 (215/40) fronts and 17x10 +19 (235/40) rears on my old s13 with stock fenders

I'm going for a 16x8 as well, but I'm doing it to get more tire under the car, not for "flushness". honestly "hellaflush" (especially when the wheel sticks out BEYOND the fender) is just retarded in my eye.

Sometimes I like it, sometimes i Dont, But i wish I could find a 17x8" wheel that will fit. It would be nice for me :D

i agree with the hella flush overkill. i think sometimes a RWD car can pull it off but FWD def no way. i prefer when the lip of the wheel sits exactly flush with the fender and maybe a 1-3mm poke

personally I prefer a functional wheel fitment, where when the suspension compresses, the wheel goes inside the fender where it belongs.

lol good thing those rpf1's i ordered were on backorder
17x9 +35, i would have some clearence issues i guess

but they were the only size they had in gold lol oh well, i got my 5zigens instead in +48 :(
