So it has been happening a little this past year, it would pop out of 3rd when the trans was cold, and in winter. Summer would come and it would go away. Winter, it came back and now being summer, it does it still. I can't give it any more than quarter throttle when it is cold in third or it will pop out, sometimes violently.

I do trans fluid changes every 10k with Royal Purple fluid.

1. I believe this to be dog teeth problems. Synchros are fine as it does not grind into the gear, just pops out.

2. is there anyway to repair this, as in a transmission rebuild kit anywhere that I can buy?

you bleed your clutch? Also I have 96 318is(trannys are notorious for loosing second gear syncros and second pops out because of the extra wear on the teeth of the cog) I put in some 75w-140 in and solved this problem for now..... Im thinking of putting in 75w-140 in my protege for added protection too..

75-140? Didn't know they went up that high. I was going to fill it back up with half and half of royal purple and ATF. That seems to help a little bit from what I hear.

EDIT: And no, never had a problem with the clutch so I never had to touch it.

Bump! Anyone know where to get a transmission rebuild kit from? It would be interesting to rebuild a FWD box and not a RWD.

Bumping from the dead. Changed the front/passenger/rear motor mounts and clutch still pops out of gear. Any ideas?
