I agree with you, it's absolutely not a practical decision. Go drive the 2010 though, and tell me it's not a big enough upgrade. The driveability is VASTLY improved. After 23k in my car I still can't drive it smoothly (clutch). I pulled away from the curb for the first time in the 2010 and made it all the way through the gears without any bucking, surging, or slipping. It was devine.
It also has re-worked suspension that lessens the crab walking effect that you get under power on the 08's (don't know the details on the changes). Everyone says this is a non-issue, but I caused an accident on the freeway that totaled a Malibu by crabwalking towards the next lane and freaking out a guy in a Commander.
My car is paid off, and I could upgrade to the 2010 for a few thousand bucks (not 10k). Again, it's not practical, but that's why I was in there exploring my options.
