We've been putting some miles on it and it'll expire in a month or two. Anyone have stories of problems that arose around the 30k to 40k mark? Only issue we have is the suspension squeek in the cold weather, suspect its the swaybar bushings. I didn't have them replaced because it looked like too much invasive repair for a little problem.

Also, anyone agree that the cruise control is crap on these cars?

I had all the sway bar bushings and the left rear strut replaced. The work was all done around 37K. I have the '06 so it was still under warranty. If it's under warranty, why not have them look?

WoW the warranty must have changed alot between 06 and 07 models. I just ran out of the standard warranty in May, at 80,000. how can the warranty be cout in half between 2 model years! that's crazy

having said that have them check all the expensive stuff before the warranty expires! sliding door locks, front bearings, rear struts, etc. My dealer weant over the car very throughtly at my last service beforethe warratny ran out. I even mentioned that the CD player sometimes stopped playing CD's on a long frive and they put in a new stereo!

Ummm curious...whats up with your cruise control?

As for warrenty issues maybe submit your VIN to your local service department as there is a major issue with the power steering pump on the 5 but restricted to certain VIN's.

My warranty will be up soon on the 5. I have a small list started but they are all minor things like the carpet clip for the floor matt is ripping away and needs to be fixed. Small things like that.

1. look under the car. there are plastic shields.. they are held up by plastic fasteners..
-- mine had the fasteners broken and was hanging.. no idea if this is covered by warranty.

2. look closely at the windows compare from left and right window. In mine the glass had grabbed one end of the rubber weather strip it got deformed causing air leak hence noise.. dealer replaced it under warranty.

3. I don't know about the spark plugs. maybe take them out and see how bad they are?
might show issues with engine..

Yes, the warranty was reduced by one year / 12,000 miles though the powertrain coverage was extended.

Here are the warranties for the US market:

2006: 4 year / 48,000 mile “bumper to bumper” warranty and 24/7 roadside assistance
2007: 3 year / 36,000 mile “bumper to bumper” warranty and 24/7 roadside assistance, plus 5 year / 60,000 mile powertrain warranty
2008: same as ’07 but adds 5 year unlimited mile anti-perforation limited warranty
2009: same as ’07, but “anti-perforation” is changed to “body rust-through”

From the 2006 brochure:

I dont thing the spark plugs are going to tell you anything about the engine. The only thing that will really go wrong is slugde or number 3 going for the balance shaft and lack of oil to that cylinder. If you are worried about oil then have an analysis done on your next change. Just pull a sample and send it in. $25 I think. Tell you a lot about how your car is using the oil or not.
I doubt the plastic rivits are warrantied but the dealership might replace them for free, especially if they do your oil changes. That is about the only time those rivits come out. If they get broke or lost and are not put back on the attachment spots for the splash shield become broken down and it will sag beyond what the 10mm bolts hold. There are also identical ones under/in each wheel well holding the plastic in.
The window rubber is a good idea though! Those start to get out of whack and are a pain to get right. You can also have them look at the adjustments on the sliding doors. I hear they can get out of whack over time as well. Look for any rust any where, carpet wear some place your feet have not been or anything you think looks premature.

Probs I had addressed w/ my 06 were the cargo door locks and actuators (both broke on both doors) the A/C compressor & the TSB on the rear bushings. I also have a very intermittant prob w/ the ignition - occasionally, I will remove the key but the car thinks the key is still in. This has all but gone away since I got switchblades key/remotes for it.

Only other real prob is the 5MT being stiff with the gates, like the linkages are coming loose. Will have that addressed in the near future, before the 48 mos is up.

And as for the CC, its the best I have had to date. First time the cruise actually can be pinpointed to an exact mph, instead of a range, like on my Accord or any of my older cars.

my dealer here in Boise sucks, "we don't upsell warranty" so unless I have a complaint they won't do jack. Its a GM dealerships that sells Mazda's on the side.

Going up hills the cruise downshifts into 3rd, floors it (yes pedal to the floor) and doesn't stop till its 5mph over my set point. LAME. I punch the off button every time, not good for the car but I feel better.... Dealer: "The cruise works"... thanks for nothing.

Perhaps I'll take it 20 miles up the road and see if the other dealer is better. No other real issues than what I mentioned. Its my wifes car and she doesn't care nearly as much as I do about the little stuff so there may be more I just don't know the car.

Thanks for all the input. I've done my own oil changes with Mobil 1, this time I'll pay the dealer to do it and hopefully get a thorough checkout.
