Anyone else having a hard time finding a job if you don't have one already? I live in Washington and I've been having the hardest time finding a job! It's driving me insane? Anyone have any ideas or tips for getting one?

Oh wow... where to start?

Have you ever heard the expression, it's easier to find a job when you have one? Well it's true! Assuming you're holding out for something you'd like to make a career of... go get yourself a job in retail or at a restaurant for the time being. I realize they may be less than ideal but those types of places are usually always hiring. Having at least some type of job will make you more marketable and desirable to a prospective employer. It'll also keep your sanity in check and at least provide you with a few sheckles till things improve. Good luck!

I am having a difficult time find one also brother... :-/ s*** sucks... being @ home all day was cool for a week or two.. got to clean up, paint the walls, throw out items that were unnecessary, sand down my rims and prep them for paint... but after 2 months of this BS... its getting quite annoying

That is entirely true..., I was going insane w/ the unusual hours of sleep, the whole couch potato phase, and being allergic to sunlight... BUT, BUT...ONLY positive thing I have got from being jobless is the abundent (sp?) amount of time I spent with my daughter and being @ the gym, learning how lift correctly, to eat correctly and the other affects sleep does to u besides for recharging your body (like muscle growth =D).. my daughter loves me mroe then ever (or i feel as if it is so) and my Body Fat % dropped from 28% to 19% =(alright)

Perhaps it's a blessing in disguise. Obtaining a PT license isn't all that hard and the pay can vary from decent to... well, sky's the limit! www.nasm.org is probably the best place to start if you're interested. Most gyms require at least that level of certification.

Nope, you're the only one having a hard time finding gainful employment. Just you.

Don't come to Hawaii. I saw a few articles that says Hawaii has the highest unemployment rate out of all the states. :(

I am moving up to the states in a few more months once I can get my debt under 30k.

I actually currently have a retail job, but they have been only giving me 8-16 hours a week at just above minimum here which sucks. Tomorrow I'm buying a MSP, I want to make sure ill make all the paymentsss without any problems!

I'm also out of work. I was building modular homes and got a permanent lay off. The only thing in my area is housing and all the companies either shut down or are running very slow. What makes it even worse is my unemployment just ran out and I have a 2 1/2 month old daughter to take care of. Everywhere I try to get a job at isn't hiring. Hell, even the fast food places around here aren't hiring. Times are tough.

Screw fast food! The combination of low pay and dreadful working conditions makes that one of the worst possible job choices anyway.

You said the only thing in your area are housing companies. lol come on! I don't know your area obviously but... that simply cannot be true. You may need to learn another craft but, with the downturn in the housing industry not appearing to reverse course anytime soon, it might be well worth the time.

While you do that... I'd suggest you get yourself a job in retail or a restaurant (slow food). The latter being the better choice since the pay can actually be pretty decent with tips. Waiting tables may not be the easiest job in the world... but it has its perks. Despite the economy, I think you'll find at least a few openings. A lot of the people that were laid off were laid off at 9-5 or blue collar jobs. Whether it's because their schedule doesn't allow the flexibility or they're simply too intimidated at the idea... based on what I've been told at least, there ARE jobs to be found waiting tables. Being a guy... you have the ability to wait at a fancy establishment. Granted, you'd need to have experience (as well as a certain... quality about you) but those jobs often pay quite well! Even still, the Outbacks & Chilis of the world aren't a terrible place to make ends meet... Good luck

if it wasnt for me still being in school most of the day and only being able to work part time i could have accepted many full time offers to work at a few independant repair shops and at the 4 dealers iv inquired at

(dunno)

I'm glad you're able to find work so easily. I hope (with your little shrugging smiley guy thing) you're not implying that it should be just as easy for everyone else. There are far too many factors at play for anyone to compare their situation to anyone else. I'm guessing, since you're still in school and all, that you're on the young side. (early 20's) All things being equal, it's usually easier for people in this age group to find work. Their expenses are such that they don't require (or demand) the type of pay someone in their 30's would. Depending on the type of job, an employer may take the risk and hire young. Ideally, you capitalize on this marketability and continue to hone your skills so that you're always marketable. Often, that's easier said than done. Youngsters will, like everything else in their life, take for granted how easily they are able to find jobs... Before they know it, they're an old fart that nobody wants to hire.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand. For anyone who is in search of a job... Might I suggest a tremendous networking group that has undoubtedly setup shop somewhere nearby. (They're everywhere!) Go to www.bni.com to search for a local chapter. You'll find some of the most dynamic networkers around... some of which will surely be able to aid you in your job search. The meetings usually start at 7am but are always highly productive.

i was not implying that at all, but now see how what i said can be seen how it could have been taken by some. im actually younger that you think, 18. and i take nothing for granted. i appreciate the help i get from my parents now and know how fortunate i am to have had the opertunities iv had

i just expressed the side of the spectrum iv seen while also seeing other people, both my age and older struggling with finding stable and gainfull work

Try looking for audio video technician.
This is a rather unknown area so there is still some demand in it.
Sometimes construction experience is a plus for an entry level technician.
Also play up on a resume that you know and understand both process, attention to detail, and the importance of a check list to perform quality control. anything like that you could have learned from a building process.
Experience is rarely as important for these jobs as dedication and intelligence which are both hard to find.

Haha try Michigan out... trying to find a job here is a fail before you even think about it!!

With having to work around classes it makes it even worse.

This is a good career. Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapist, and Speech Language Pathologists make really good money and there are openings almost everywhere.

If you are licensed and looking for anything, let me know.
