For those who have done n/a mods

ya know, i once thought all my mods would gain me something, and it did. I gained 7whp dynoed with over a thousand dollars spent on mods. I could barely notice a difference. Maybe ive just outgrown it but all the mods arent worth the time and money anymore and I am currently scrapping everything performance except for my exhaust and midpipe purely for sound

who me? well the thrill of a fast car is very intoxicating and I "wanted" this car to be fast but like my brother in law the mechanic told me. If I wanted a fast car, I should have just bought one, and that statement holds true with this car because it is very slow and you cant get a whole lot out of it without going turbo which would cost a few grand easily. With all that said I still find the p5 very sexy and I do have visual mods and love the cornering ability. I just reccomend you not waste the money on hp mods

True dat.

All I have is an AEM SRI and a MSP axleback as far as performance mod. About $300 spent there, which isn't too bad. HIDs, JDM tails (soon to come!), and OOOGA horn (still needs fix) is all worth it!

but with the mods you have im sure it makes the car just that much more fun.....i just did intake,header,cat-back,udp,short shifter, bushings, and mp3 ecu it was about 850$ but hell this things feels like its alive now...im not saying its fast! but when i press the gas to pass someone it goes and when i turn on the ac it still goes.....

it all depends on how you look at it because for 850$ i differently got more then 7hp and most people would kill for that ..do you know how hard it is to squeeze 7hp out of a NA sohc honda motor haha and thats not even talking about the amount of torque we get with those mods

If you want a FAST car go get a stage 2 ms3 ....if you want an all around good car do the NA mods

^^^ +1

(drinks)Amen! I've had 3 Hondas and have done bolt on mods to all of them and they were still slow. My P5 is not "fast", and I'm usually the slowest one on a group of friends when we're out and about, but this is bar far the most fun car to drive and looks great.

wow sounds nice!
You're making me miss my car Zath.

got any clips at highway speeds (60-70ish)

The MP3 ECU is tuned MUCH better from the factory than the stock ECU. You get a gain of 4-5 horse and about as much torque but the power band and torque curve are MUCH MUCH smoother which does wonders.

I don't believe that the MP3 alternators are any different than the regular ones.

Oh and yes, it is a very easy upgrade. Just take out your ecu and put in the MP3 ecu.

the crank hp gain is 10...and everyone that switched over loved the improved/smooth power band

There's a dyno sheet showing 4-5 of both in the new MP3 ECU thread. The MP3 made 10 HP with the help of the Racing Beat exhaust as well as the ECU.

right, i agree with you to an extent. Im just saying, if you wanted a fast car, you shouldnt have bought a protege. Ive just finally come to terms with it after being jaded when I first got it

OBX header
Magnaflow cat-back
Stock intake mod (after experimenting w/several SRI's)
RR-Racing UDP
AWR front motor mount + side inserts, 70 durometer
Stitch plush toy

Cost of all mods and hp gained proven by dyno? This is the point im trying to make. The hp gained is not worth the money spent.

My car was fast... around corners...

actually I've always accepted that my Protege wasn't fast, I considered it quick, and reeeaaly fun to drive. After my bolt-ons my car was still quick (not fast), and it revved easier...

so would you say it was worth the money for the mods you did to it? I barely noticed the hp gain on my car hence why im selling everything but the exhaust so I still have a little noise when i hit the gas hard.

I never installed the mods with the illusion that they would turn my Slow-te-ge 5 in to a Fast-te-ge 5. I expected my car to be a bit more fun, and it was. In that sense, I believe it was worth it to me. (key words: "to me")

nah these were a while ago. Though it's pretty quiet up until about 80 mph (automatic - 4th gear at 4-4.5k rpm), where it drones quite loud!

I could handle droning at 4k, mine hit the sweet spot at 3-3.5 k right in my cruise zone, argh

200+400+100+100=$800.

No proof on dyno, but the butt dyno loves it. The udp really helped me gain in low-end. The intake mod has helped me as well. So far I'm getting as low as 28mpg and as high as 45mpg. Not bad for a car that's supposed to get 25/32!

If I wanted hp gain, I would've gone with a turbo. However, you'll note I have spent far less than a turbo would have cost. My motor isn't blown and my auto transmission isn't melted. To me, that's good enough. I'd rather save up money I would've spent for a faster car in the future (most likely a mazdaspeed 3).

Carter, did you do any mods that would have detracted from your gains? For example, I ran 17" MP3 rims for a while. Yeah, they were sexy, and the car literally cornered like it was on rails, BUT the added unsprung weight killed my acceleration and braking. Acceleration wise, it felt like it was bone-stock again. I'm back to the stock 16's, and very happy. Also, did you reset the ECU after putting your $1,000 in? That's an essential step in modding your car!

ive done all that you suggested. and I dynod it when I had 16's on the car. It came out to 107.7 whp and 107.2 tq. This is with intake, catback, midpipe, and udp
