For those who have done n/a mods

Unless you have tons of car audio stuff, do the UDP. Trust me. Low-end gains + less A/C drain = win.

what does it have to do with audio stuff?

UDP runs the Alternator and stuff, if it's a smaller diameter than your audio stuff will be getting less power... I personally am going to go with a lightweight pulley set, stock diameter. I have a street car, I want it to be a street car.(drinks)

thanks that rules out the UDP for me, lightweight is in the future now

I have a theory that a lot of the gains from a UDP comes from weight, you should get more from having a smaller diameter, but the margins would be so close that I don't think that my accessory performance loss is worth it.
ProtegeGarage has them

I just read in the description that you'll be able to stay with stock belt sizes with stock diameters.. imagine that.. I bet that's important if you want to find belts that fit..

ya i have 2 12" subs with a 2 farad cap and my headlights still dim when i turn it up. i need all the accessory power i can get

pulley,SS,intake, then corksport power series and youll be set

do not get a header if u get the corksport or a catless midpipe+CBE, it will sound like ass trust me lol
i have an UDP, SS, CAI, CBE and Header and i love my car for once now
i have a bunch of non performance mods but i didnt want to make a huge list lol

edit: ^^ u cant do that to a protege cuz there is no aftermarket support
and because they dont have vtec, u guys may make fun of it, but thats how all the hondas are making big power
2.4L k series honda motor=240hp N/A
2.4L TURBO dodge motor=240hp FI
2.3L TURBO Mazda motor= 263hp FI

i just think its crazy what honda does with there valve timing
QFT. hondas really do rely on vtec to make power but its a great power indeed! the newer motors are even better. i remember my sentra had and still has no aftermarket support. that really is a big killer. you can do anything to a honda motor. its just insane.

i have been thinking about the ecu flash as of lately. i think i want to do it just for the smoothness. everyone loves it and it seems it might be well worth the 150

the easiest way to eliminate the headlight dimming... is to get HIDs. I just put another amp in my car, and i dont have any capacitors. my lights dont dim at all. that and clean your battery terminals! also helps.

I'll never have more than an upgraded HU and speakers, and the low end is what I am really looking for, so that is on the list for sure.

Yup that's what I have - Alpine HU and upgraded front speakers. And the stock spare tire sub. I haven't had any problems yet (except I have noticed slight headlight dim at idle when fogs + headlights are on).

As for gains off the udp, about 85% is due to the lighter weight and 15% is due to the decreased diameter. Holding the stock pulley and udp in both hands is like night and day.

I am getting ready to underdrive everything and i will report back with the findings...

OBX crank UDP
SR w/p and alt
Medieval PS

Just got to get this pos beater on the road. F jdm.

I'm considering the pulleys and a future mod. Maybe.

As for my belt, I'm getting squeaks now and then so how do I add more tension? Would that fix it?

yes that should help if it is lose. If it is already tight time to think of getting a new belt. If you tighten it too much it will snap.

QFT. People mod for many reasons...I personally mod because I like doing it, and it improves my car. I haven't done a mod that I have not regretted or needed. The header replaced a broken J-pipe, the inserts were necessary because my stock mounts were shot, and the ss and bushings vastly improved shifting when coupled with the weighted knob. The MP3 ecu I scored from a yard for $100 and the drivability of the car went way up. The intake was probably the only "selfish" mod. Probably $700 worth of mods, and when I get the $175 used Magnaflow Catback on, I'll probably call it a day (maybe a UDP also). In any case, I like my car customized myself, and that's the main reason I mod. A race car it ain't, but it's my car and I love it the way it is.

I hear you on that my old p5 had a Thunder header (stock exhuast other then header), simota CAI (made cool noises but no real gains) , Street unit front and side mounts, medieval lw pullies( waste of time imo), drilled slotted rotors (looks good but under daily driving kind of pointless), and Drag DR17 wheels! All those mods made the p5 a fun peppy car! I was content with it! Was it fast? hardly! Fun to drive? hell yeah. I still want another p5 even with having a MSP.

I want to get the RR Racing UDP you have, but their website has shown it as out of stock for a while. Hopefully they'll start selling them again soon...

How would I tighten it?

Ok if it is your outside belt (PS/AC if you got it) then undewr your PS pump (Top frount pulley) There is a bolt there that moves the pump to tighten and lossen it. Now if it is your inside belt (alt) right above your alternator (right behind your engine, under your intake manifold) there is a bolt that looks the same as the one under the ps pump. Same thing there. Before adjusting losen your side bolts a turn or two on the pump that way it is free to adjust

"Fast" is a relative term. Race a SmartCar? Yes, the P5 is "fast". But pretty much try to race everything out there and we're screwed... (sadbanana)

you know what man you just brought up something that has been killing me......the other day a smart car tried to race me and i was in the middle of town so i didnt want to go crazy but those damn things are fast

he took off on me before i knew we were racing and then i try to pass him and we got to 85 and i said F*** that ....and my girlfriend will not stop talking s*** about how a smartcar beat me in the big bad P5 that "ive spent so much money on"(smash)

moral of the NA P5 story is when you do these mods and are driving by urself it seems hella faster ...but when you try and race someone u realize its not

are you really going to be racing people all day??
OR are you going to be driving by urself and somtimes having fun!!!!!!!

eveyone needs to figure out what the car is used for and go from there

THE END..............
