What do I need? N/A to Turbo

So Im looking at an N/A Mazdaspeed Protege.

Yes, it's a Mazdaspeed, but some how it's N/A.

Anyways, Im wanting to bring her back to live.

COuld anyone help me with some parts.

The radiator, and ECU are still there. It runs fine, just without the turbo "hump"

Anyways, this is what I got so far.

Do you know if all I need is:
-Turbo
-Turbo manifold
-Wastegate
-Pipping (U/L)
-BOV
-MAF
-Intercooler

Remember, ECU and Radiator are still there. Just Turbo items.

the IC is missing but the MSP rad is there? look next to it... there may be an IC there.

You'll also probably need:
water lines
oil feed and return lines
might need to figure out where to tap the oil feed line in, either a filter sandwich plate, or a tap into the oil galleries on the block..
check to see if the windage tray is between the block and trans, if its not, you'll have to tap the oil pan or source the windage tray (this is where the oil return line goes)
with the turbo you'll need a wastegate actuator
vacuum lines to run to the: bov/bpv and wga (you may be able to do this with open ports on the intake mani, or you may need a vac block)
is the stock MAF on the car?

I dont believe it has a MAF at all. I will have to double check tomorrow.

As far as the oil lines, I believe it's the original motor. So it should have the plug for them. Just not sure how they are plugged from leaking since there is nothing connected to them. Correct?

there must be a plug of some sort SOMEWHERE in the feed, as for the return it could be just capped as its unpressurized. hard to know whats there/missing/done without seeing it. What makes you believe the original engine is in it? do you see a harness for the maf? is the IAT sensor present?

Kind of a small picture, but I will stop by the dealer and get more tomorrow...

You are right. Im really not 100% sure it's the original motor. Might make sense why it's N/A. Someone probably just dropped a used Protege motor in it???

intercooler is present and accounted for... pull up your carpet on the passenger side floor and look for a unichip. there may be a tuner installed on that car already. other than that, I can't see jack in that pic. lol

Haha already sir.

Need to make a check list.

-Look for Oil plug
-Look for unichip

See how it drives. Hopefully the car is just missing small stuff. Guy said it ran perfect. Just no turbo.... We will see..

Just wanted to update this. The car had no power. Motor was going and going, but the car wasn't..

It wouldn't even stay on!

Just seemed too much of a hassle.

Same person had a Complete MSP but with 145k miles. Suspension squeaks, but runs great.
Might be shooting for that one.

Thanks guys for the help! Really appreciate it :-)

suspension squeaks are 99% worn sway bar bushings.... miles are awfully high though. and not having a MAF will make the car run like ass every time.

I did get that MSP. Body has 145k, but the motor was under 60k. Which is good, but I'm going to be doing a compression test, and few other goodies to maintain it.

As far as the Sway bar Bushings go, are they hard to replace?
I can do that kind of stuff, unless it has to do mechanicly or internal motor work.

Yeah, that other car was just too much. MAF might of helped it, as long with a Turbo haha.

It just seemed like it needed too much work. It didnt have a CEL thou! That was crazy. The bulb probably burnt out after staying on so long.

i replaced the bushings on my car and they just started sqeeking again like a month later in my opinion id say its a waste of time dosent really make a difference

LOL yeah that was a good deal. But I honestly didn't have the time to put into it.

Just to bring this one back. I have all the turbo parts for the 53K N/A MSP and will be working on it in a couple of weeks.

I blew up the 145K car. Threw a rod through the block, tray and oil pan. I am so happy you did not buy it. The motor is now out of the car.

I sourced a 20K JDM motor out of Canada and am swapping over parts now. Bought the windage tray. After its done it should be a great car again. I think I am going to keep it.

gettin back to your original question your gonna need a hell of alot more than that if you count bolts, gaskets, ect. I just got into a MSP turbo install on my MP3 and Ill say I never expected it to be so in depth. I payed about 1G for the base setup and about another 500 in minor parts (like the coolant elbow adapter that feeds coolant to the turbo for instance). It gets expensive especially going to the dealer for minor parts. I had to do the hole oil cooler assembly to so that adds to it. But when all said and done and with the addition of a FMIC this kit and install ran me roughly 2000$ (I did buy a few parts brand new though like the manifold (thanks to spicyorangemsp)
