Well yep title says it all.

I was helping a buddy replace his breaks today. Wanted to take it for a test drive after we got everything all set up. I pulled my car up about 10ft so he could back out. As I did I took the corner into the parking spot a little too sharp and scraped up on a wall made of landscaping blocks. It sucked I never even saw it. Anyhow I only scratched the plastic, the metal is fine. But I don't think this is something that can be repainted. They go all the way through the paint and dig into the plastic.

Anyone replace one of these? Its the right side. Curious how much I will wind up spending. I think I might try to do the install myself.

Just an FYI. This is one of the things I had Ultrashine take care of for me. My driver's side skirt was separating from the front fender mounting point. They pulled it and reattached it. I guess they go on with two-sided tape and some fasteners that lock into the edge of the wheel well. Even if you wanted to install it yourself, I think it still needs to be painted. I don't think it comes from the factory painted.

I hope it does. I would honestly rather have it repainted but the stone made some pretty nasty gashes in the plastic. Even with a repaint it would look crappy. Anyhow I might stop in and see them tomorrow after work, after your recommendation they were one of the people I thought I would check in with.

update! Called my dealer. $578.00! HOLY @#$%! But it does come painted at least.

I think im going to try and find a used one first, perhaps off of a salvage or something. Any ideas on this?

i scratched mine on a screwy drive way. took it to a shop paid 300 and they fixed the scratch and painted. but for the difference you might as well go to dealer.

skeeter,
When it happened to you were there scratches in the plastic too, or just the surface paint?

Update:

Went to ultra shine. To my surprise they said they could fix it for less money then a new part. Quoted me about $$309 to remove the rocker, sand it down, epoxy it, and repaint.

I have faith that epoxy is pretty strong stuff. I know with bonding epoxy, the bond it forms is often stronger then the material itself. That said if I could I would rather replace the part. The cheapest I have found it for is about $380.00 or so off of parts.com

Here is the link... gotta page down a bit, its the one that says "Rocker molding True red Right - Hatchback W/mazdaspeed Factory installed"

I can't tell if that is the same part or not, but it seems to be.

Yeah that looks to be the same part. Maybe try to see what shipping with be if you get that one. because another 100 bucks might sway your opinion on which to choose.

I was thinkin that too. The link you left, that guy offers free shipping.

This whole thing really blows. I was planning on spending $150 on a sri, instead im gonna spend twice that fixing a mess i created moving my car 10ft. I am going to have to save up for it too.
