Red-stripe In-Dash GPS Installed!

yeah its supposed to pop on when you put it in reverse acording to the GB thread...
its like on page 6 or 7

nice. I am currently rocking the GLaDOS voice from Portal too...fun. Downloaded Knight Rider, Sean Connery, George Dubya, and the Portal Voice.

Finally got Route66 to work. Just needed to be loaded on the SD card.

So far I like the GUI of Finean, but the voice promp on Route66.

Are you saying you can get different voices??? For tomtom? Is loading it like the way I had to load route66? I really don't know anything about this stuff hahaha.

Well I found a supposed full version of Igo8. It seemed the folder has all the proper files, but when I put the card in the unit, browse for the igo.exe select it and it acts like its going to run, but then pops up an error screen that says it can't find data base?

What version of tomtom should I be looking for?

Here are some pics of my HDD mounting and iPhone cable. RCA AUX-mod coming soon, but for now they just come through the open hole where the 3.5mm Aux input was. HDD is held on with Velcro
Also shown is Mr.Connery, who never does me wrong with Directions. Also my Microphone mounting behind the steering wheel.

Ok I tried the gps underground twice I have to be doing something wrong. Does anyone have the full set up folder with all the poper files that they can just make into a zip file and load it some where to download?

I did get a chance to use both finean and route66 for about 5 hrs. had to drive from Knoxville tn to VIR for a skip barber race/ Bachelor party, if the rains holds off we should be on track at 10am. but back to the nav. finean was good but after about an hour and a half it would pop up saying unregistered maps and shut off the nav. route66 was very good and very accurate. never even questioned it's route.

I took Finean off my card and only use Route 66. I'd like to get a working copy of TomTom7 myself. Been trying to get it from gpsunderground but it takes forever having to wait for the download timer off rapidshare.

Since I haven't been very successful getting other MP3/Media players working yet, I'm thinking I'll post a video of my progress so far. Maybe some of you guys can help figure it out. CE seems like a pita to get stuff for. Everything is for Windows Mobile.

Here's the video and a zip file with FilemanCE, ceplayer, wceload and a sample htm wceload file which has the run syntax to load a .cab file in CE. Simply edit the htm file and change the name.cab to the actual location and name of the cab file you want to install.

yeah, was an all day thing for me. Only bug I still have is that it more or less stops navigating after 5 minutes or so. Its not completely stopped or frozen, but the screen just stops moving...you have to tap it to get any sort of activity from it again...very odd.

edit, turns out you have to edit the power schemes for WinCE and set all to NEVER. Basically WinCE was going into and idle mode and causing the tomtom software to idle as well.

hey,
where did u put the GPS antenna?
and how good is microphone "reception" on the steering wheel column?

My GPS antenna is under my dash, behind the air vents where the factory GPS goes. I did originally have it sitting on my dash in the top corner, but then after I realized it could get reception in my garage I didn't think it needed a clear view of the sky.

GPS Antenna is behind the center vents, there is lots of room back there and reception is fine for GPS, after all, thats where the stock GPS is. Microphone reception is great, others report that I sound perfect and I don't have to yell or otherwise raise my voice above normal talking volume.

about the ipod controls...
not sure if i missed it or it is just obvious to everyone else, but with the ipod connector they send, can you use the controls on the hu or steering wheel to change the song?
if i am understanding correctly you can, the only thing you cant to is select the album or playlist or whatever?
i think it is from the pictures shown, but is the supplied chord long enough to route through the standard AUX port in the center console?

Yes, you can use the steering wheel or HU controls to change the songs, that part works great. However, the overall iPod controls are lacking. You can only go through artist or album in alphabetical order one at a time up or down. The bad part is that it takes around 5 to 6 seconds to go up or down between each one, so if you have 500 albums and you want to listen to ZZ top, it's going to take you a very very long time to get to that album. If you turn the car off and get back in and press the controls to change artist or album it goes right back up to "A" and you have to start all over. This is why I just use the Aux connector instead.

It looks like I received different cables than other did and mine would not quite reach to the armrest, but I put them in the ashtray anyway. My RCA Aux connectors are ran to the armrest now though, but I still have my USB cables in the ashtray.

I actually unplugged my ipod while in that mode and plugged it back in and it didn't lock out the ipod so my buddy could navigate on the ipod while i drove. and used the system navi.

But if you back out to the ipod menu it will sync back up and lock it out again.
