Upgrading fuel pump

so lately ive been losing fuel pres at the fuel line when i go into boost, and thus i am leaning out at higher RPMs. This happened when i installed the 626 intake mani. i was at the protege garage site and stumbled at this

I do plan on upgrading my setup to use an EMS, nothing too crazy, then hopefully build the engine and use bigger injectors @ 12-14 PSI

would this be helpful? or is it a maintenance thing? is there another fuel pump I should be looking at?

over time the stock pump does have trouble keeping up with boosted applications. if you're planning on double digit PSI down the road, going with the Walbro is not a bad idea at all

is it an upgrade or just a better piece that performs the same duties as the stocker?

A walboro is probably the first modification i would do in a turbo car. When it comes to tuning for more boost, even when your injectors are sufficient, the factory fuel pump can cause a lean condition that makes it look like your injectors are maxed out, when really its the fuel pump that cant keep up.

thanks for chiming in mark :) if you guys place the order for the pump and injectors through me i'll take a percentage off for you as well.

I've had my Walboro for nearly two years and I've not installed it because I didn't think it would be necessary until higher boost levels. So are you all saying there would be a benefit to installing this even if we're at, say 10 psi?

The other thing keeping my from installing is that there seems to be so many things that can go wrong. I'm afraid I'm going to tear, rip, loose, drop something, etc that will screw up my car.

it takes a load off your injectors. if you have less pressure on tap you'll need to add fuel by increasing duty cycle and pulsewidth. by having more flow to the injector itself, the injector won't need to work as hard or pulse as much because the pump is supplying more pressure per pulse. hope that makes sense.

I follow. I've just read through the pump install thread many times and a lot of people ran into lean issues for one reason or another. There was also recent word of odd "pulsing" noises with the Walboro when used in conjunction with the Perrin fuel rail. Either way, if it won't "hurt" at boost levels around 10 psi I see no harm in installing it. May just make that my weekend project.
