I found a good deal on a magnaflow exhaust for the protege sedan but i hear it drones bad. if you have input it would be greatly appreciated

Many aftermarket cat-back exhaust systems drone at certain engine speed/load conditions. I have a Magnaflow cat-back in my Honda and while it drones under high load, low speed conditions, the majority of the time it just sounds great - low tone that is never high-piched in any way.

are cat back systems direct fit? or they require modification or welding?

starts after the midpipe containing the cats and goes the rest of the way back. it does not replace your cats.
^ can you explain me what a cat back is ? I am not sure if I have the right concept of what it is..

Yes, they are direct-fit and can be installed at home, provided you have the tools and know how to safetly keep the car in the air. I installed my Magnaflows in a couple of hours.

nice...I already have the tools to keep the car in the air. I guess I just need to get a good deal in a cat back.

what is the diameter of the piping in our cars? and how much did you got you cat back for?

I have the Magnaflow too and love it, my brother got his used from craigslist but I wanted a valid warranty so I got it here. Magnaflow Exhaust 16955, or you can try one of the sponsors here on the forum, they are allways having sales/specials. Either way its a great exhaust system, sounds great, and very easy to install.

I think the one for the Honda was over $300 but it is all-stainless steel and polished, so I felt it was a good price. I'm not sure what the diameter of the Protege pipes are, but you can always call Magnaflo; they'll tell you.

I have a magnaflow muffler on my 99 Protege. Not a cat-back, just the muffler and it sounds amazing, deep smooth and low nothing high at all. There isn't really a drone, especially just cruising around 50-60km you barely hear it unless you press your foot down, then its a little different:)

Mine is a 2.5 inch inlet outlet 5x8. (12256)
