AFAIK, CX9 shares the chassis with Edge.
The 3.7L was from Ford Duratec, but Mazda enlarged it to 3.7L (from 2007's 3.5L from Ford) and modified the intake portion (don't know exactly what was done to it). Mazda did the latter because Mazda was not satisifed with the engine response from gas pedal. CX7, in contrast to what most people think, is very unrelated to CX9, even though they look like brothers.
What can I say???? I have the eternal MOD bug. Gotta find a way to make the CX stand apart....
Have you SEEN your car? The CX9 stands apart by simply existing.
Sporty, me thinks you are just too old to hang with us kids![]()
The 3.5L Duratec although developed under the Ford name, but was actually co-designed by Ford, Mazda, and Volvo engineers. It is a very good engine. Particularly the Mazda 3.7L version.
Just wondering if the CX-9 and Flex share a common chassis.. If so, we have some aftermarket support at least in the suspension department provided they share the same setup...
True. The article was in 2007. Our CX9 has the VVT (which causes a few engine-knocking problems for some owners.) on the intake.Already has variable valve timing. and, it's adaptive
Ford Duratec 35 (3.5L) was one of the Ward's top 10 engines in 2007.

In the article, the Mazda's name was mentioned as one of the "potential customers", not as a co-developer. Based on what I read elsewhere, Mazda used the 3.5L in 2007, and decided that it needs more torque for heavy vehicle like CX9, and improved the responsiveness by modifying the intake. That's how the 3.7L version was born.
Lincoln will release the 2010 MKT next year. Base motor will be the 3.7 liter, 268HP V6.
Optional engine will be the Ecoboost twin-turbo direct injection 3.5 liter V6, 355 HP.
I would love to have the Ecoboost engine in my CX-9. Turbos are sweet when you sit at 5000' above sea level.
