Newbie question about engine mounts

Can someone explain to me what's the difference between a front engine mount (like Turbinetech) and a rear wishbone engine mount (Like SU or AWR). Is it only different words for describing the same part?

If it is not the same, could someone post a pic showing both of the engine mounts?

Thanks a lot, I'm still trying to learn, here.

They are indeed not the same. The rear mount (dogbone) is significantly smaller and not as noticeable as the front MM. The front mounts in near the oil filter position, and I believe its a new installation (not a swap like the rear).

Here's a pic of the front mount, the rear is nothing to show really:

Here's a link to the product page:

OK, so if my Mazda dealer told me that my MM is damaged and needs to be replaced, I should definitely get an AWR rear mount (dogbone/wishbone) to replace it, since the front engine mount is optional and not something the stock MS6 has.

Did I get that right?

You are correct sir. I would suggest the AWR 88 duro. Very nice product and I love mine.

Thanks a lot, I appreciate the quick help.

One last question, what's the difference between AWR 70 and AWR 88? 88 is stiffer, I suppose? I'm not planning (for now) on doing any track.

The 70 duro isn't as rough. My 88 duro only vibrates when the A/C is on and I'm idling.Otherwise it doesn't even phase me.

I would still stick with the 88 duro, and here's why. On the MS3, they recommend you go with the 88 duro, because over time the 70 wears out and is damaged. Why go through that, especially with our cars being AWD?

Might as well get the Full AWR mount set, I have them on, the motor doesnt even flinch anymore. Rock solid is how I like it, vibes arent bad either.

So far, yeah. I'm running on a tight budget, mod wise (AKA Wife 1.0), AND the fact that I have an extended 5 years warranty, so I'm trying to keep it low for now.

Since my motor mount actually needs to be changed, it'll be easy this time to buy a better one while going unoticed. (sssh) hahaha

I will also replace my front rotors with Brembo ones (neither drilled or slotted, just standard ones) since my mazda's died last week. Cobb SRI will also be installed at the same time. I'm not going CAI since I live in Canada and I do not want to take the chance of hydrolocking. I know Canada's not the only place you can hydrolock, but with the bad winters and all, I just don't want to risk anything.

On their (Awr) website, there is. I just didn't know if the transmission mount was part of his "full mount set".

Yeah, I just looked it up myself. I don't know how much of a difference that makes, and I honestly don't even know which mount that is exactly. The dogbone is plenty for a DD car.

hey if youre looking for a awr 88 duro mm i have one sitting in my garage. it was a bit too much vibes for me so i bought the 70. its yours for 50$ where in canada u from?
