Beware MAZDA North America monitors Car Domain!!!!

That was my reason for going to the dealers, hoping they could find a cause...accident or something else. But they couldn't...

Because dealers are incompetent... Those service guys only know one thing, how to R&R parts. They have no clue when it comes to diagnosing a problem.

Even if the shooting dip stick problem gets fixed, I would still get rid of this car. The dealer stated the engine is worn... How could a 30K mile engine be worn? That is ridiculous... This car is not for me... I need something with a little more reliability. Hell my Miata ran to 240K miles without any problems!!

That shows you the problem with the MS3...it has a Ford engine.(pow)

Why dont you try fixign the blow by issue(check valve) and then do a compression test. Hell every ford that I have owned(ford guy) have had zero issues that wasn't related due to me. My Mystique(contour) had 165k on orig everything... yes that includes starter and alt!

That is a gross exaggeration

To say all dealers are incompetent is a a gross generalization. Some dealers actually understand what cusotmer service is all about and know about the cars they service. I've been lucky enough to know two dealers who are first class.

According to the dealers, what I need is a new short block... If I were to do it myself, that would cost well over $5,000... Not worth it to me. And whos to say it won't happen again?

One thing I realized is that this car will not be reaching 100K trouble free miles...of course there will be exceptions...but this is not the car/engine for me. Its way to delicate, plus the damn knocking issue its driving me nuts.

Frankly, this car/engine has too many issues...

Well, here in my area, there are 3 and they are all useless...

So how is that going to be trading in a car with a voided warranty??

You can rebuild your motor for much less than $5000!!

If you talking about getting rid of the car why build up the motor(if that is the issue). Why not just fix it as cheap as possible and then get rid of it.

The car runs fine...you just can't boost it on 4th gear for long periods of time.
A quick burst of boost is fine.

Why am I going to bother wasting money fixing it, if for the dealer who is going to buy it will not notice anything wrong with it. I'm already loosing $9K by trading her in. The dealer will just auction it off...

Your issue with oil from the dipstick sounds like just a PCV valve issue. I wouldn't get rid of it just for that. Should be a quick fix.

ALSO, there is no way to tell if an engine is 'worn'. What does the dealership mean by 'worn'? Does that mean scuffed pistons? scored bearings? To me it sounds like every other dealership making excuses for not doing a correct diagnostic of the issue.

Common Sense people.

X1000 for this statement. When it comes to warranties there is no right or wrong answer 100% of the time. If you take them to small claims court and you have common sense on your side you will MOST LIKELY win. If you modded the intake and this is a PCV valve issue then Mazda should fix it. If you put on a bigger turbo then I would bet you are out of luck

The PCV valve was replaced...no relief of the problem.

moss act should be a great way to get your warranty back. if all else fails, call SEMA. they will help you fight the good fight.

:bs::bs::bs::bs::bs::bs::bs::bs::bs:

Theres No way this is the whole story...

Take for instance my 2000 Mercury Cougar...

I had the following mods when i took it in for a tranny issue (wouldnt shift into 3rd or 4th):

CAI (had to cut a hole out of the inner fender to get the intake tube inside the fender)
SVT Throttle Body
SVT Upper Intake Manifold
Cat-less full exhaust (Headers, straight through mid pipe, and faux-dual magnaflow exhaust)
tokico Springs, B&G Springs

after a 5 minute talk with the service manager (who was working the desk) he said no problem, we'll fix it...

Found out the clutch was worn too and they replaced it with an SVT clutch (it was actually cheaper than the OEM cougar clutch) for free

call me lucky with the clutch but other than that, because the mods themselves had no effect on the transmission itself, they had no recourse and had to honor the warranty

The only thing is his screen name is AutoXRacer so by that going into an internal problem with the motor and they see that even though it's not modded... it is used as a "track car" which it's not intended or warranteed for!?

Wow man, sorry to see you leaving us. What are you getting next? Its a shame to see you put all that time and money into the MS3 and now you're moving on.

Tell me about it, I'm bummed out. I had a CP-E FMIC and some Koni w/ eibach springs waiting to be installed the following weekend before the accident. And then I was going to call it quits with mods and enjoy the car... It was perfect, right where I wanted it... Until a stupid Fire Truck slams behind me... (notcool)

I'm looking into a 2008 STi Rally Edition...and some other cars... Haven't really decided yet. I'm going to wait for all the lawyer stuff to end and see what happens. My GF is in constant pain... :(

Wow, sorry to hear it man. Well I wish the best for you and your GF.

Also....If you want to play that....It tells you in your Manual and Other paperwork how the car is designed to be used and what will/won't affect/void the warranty.

I do beleive Aftermarket parts which do not conform to the OEM Specs would do so.

An aftermarket alteranator because you want to do the repairs yourself....Warranty still in place as its designed to replace an OEM part and perform as so.

Replacing a Turbo,Exhaust or intake to extract more power and performance from the car does not fall under this as it does not meet the OEM performance standards.

This is my last point on this subject.

Its simply funny how many people want their car to be warrantied after thay do modifications and something fails...Usually catastrophic , and they think Mazda should pay for it.
Wrong.

/Thread.

Dude, Mazda makes a CAI, CBE, fully adjustable coilovers, rear camber links, lightweight track wheels, and more for the MS3. Aren't these a form of OEM equipment? Why can't other companies make products with similar specifications as these parts? Isn't this what MM was made to protect consumers from? Are these not used to extract more power/faster track times from this car? Mazdaspeed will also sponsor cars that compete in more than a certain number of events per year.
