Tire help! 235/40/18 on stock rims

Yeah, I'm only doing daily driving for now, not really doing any track time soon, I hope to have some new rims come spring time for track, I'm looking into black

I've got 235/40/18 w/ the stock wheels on my car, and have run three track events. Pas de problme!

Go for it!

A great deal of this depends on the particular tire. The sidewall design has an obvious impact here. You need to go to the tire manufacturer's website and see what they recommend. They don't all call for the same rim width. Even within the same company, different products will have different recommendations.

Well been riding these for 1500 miles already and no problems yet, I will try and save up quick to get some new wheels, thought these rims were 7.5 so I'll go with some 18x8, thinking some black tenzos!!!

Ray, you already install them so now you just have to live with it, I mentioned it to you when you first bought them, now your worried?? I told ya 225 from the get go for it to be safe. The beads on the tires is what you have to worry about, there is a VERY good chance of Bead failure if you push them to hard, the tires and wheels will part company, then your in a hell s*** load of trouble. Just my 2 cents.

Damned paranoia. Here's the deal http://www.carbibles.com/tire_bible_pg2.html

Oversizing tires

If you want the fat look but don't want to go bonkers with new wheels, you can oversize the tires on the rims usually by about 20mm (to be safe). So if your standard tires are 185/60 R14s, you can oversize them to about 205mm. But make sure you recalculate the percentage value to keep the sidewall height the same.

235 is FINE.

Well I wasn't till I found out these rims are 7 and not 7.5, which I was told by many people, but guess they were wrong including a rep at browns mazda.
