Crazee 4 tha darkside...

i love this thread...it's like a good book you don't want to put down, exciting, scary, a little sad news....can't wait until the next chapter!!(yes)
glad to hear your making some progress though!

Thanks Mark!
Just update the twiggy tuning thread:

Well, I am now running my cams as follows:

intake retarded 6 deg
exhaust advanced 4 deg

Idles much better now. CEL even went away for a minute!
Trying to get passed state inspection.
Tried higher idle and misfire goes away. But returns at regular idle rpms.

I should also mention that my head has been Decked so some milling has been done.

Big difference, the engine idles much more smoothly now.
Ordered some rod ends for the broken end links from summit today.

Josh and I did some serious sound deadening in the back and spare compartments. Edead and glued on padding too.
I tried squirting some expanding foam into some voids in the floor hehe.
Def made the cabin a few db's quieter. Still need the hatch, door panels, assenger area done too.

Today, I the used K1 long rods arrived. (mj)
Also heard the mani is done at Swaintech and ready to come back Friday!

nice! how about that inspection?? i don't want to see you carted off in cuffs on sat!!(nervous)

Which cams do you have, the N/A or the F/I? I'm thinking about installing my cams here shortly but I keep reading horror stories about bad idles and misfires. If there's one thing I can't stand it's CELs and now I'm worried they're inevitable with these cams. Even though I have cam gears I was really hoping not to have to play with them too much. I actually wasn't even going to install the exhaust cam due to the pickup issue. Any advice for the install?

Oddly enough, I have the NA cams

I also planned to dial out the 11 deg overlap when I gets me terbow installed.
What I didnt plan on was the the head may have been milled even prior to when I had it decked. Casting tolerances off the line, etc...u get the picture.
So we had originally dialed in the gears to account for some reduction, but it has actually responded very nicely to the new bumps we made. I don't think the power dropped too much, maybe a smidge. But it more than made up for it in the "crispness" of response and much gentler idle, less jerking vibrations.
so I guess zeroing in even a properly pinned cam is still an "art form"
I'm sure there are LOTs of improvements still to be made.

The cam gears DO NOT appear to be dropping any signal that we could find. So I WOULD try the exh gear too IF u think u might need to do any competent cam fine tuning.

next,
brakes, suspension Revisited!...

Okay, so the idle is better but you still have a CEL? I'm curious as I wonder if this might be caused by the pickups being adjusted when you adjust the cam gears. It's going to be an annoying process because I don't have a cutout in my valvel cover and I really don't want to screw up the nice powercoat I have.

so you're thinking the screws are ok now? you replaced them though...didn't you?

Well, heres an update:

Ordered a new EGR to replace the one that stopped sending signals. EGR is not hooked up, but is plugged in to placate the ECU.
2nd O2 sensor is working now that it was cleaned. Rear brake caliper sliders were stuck, now fixed, new pads.
Misfire codes may have been from loose plug boot, #3 likes to pop off. Trimmed boot to seal better on plug and code hasn't returned.
Also, running a spacer on CPS to bring it closer to pickups.

In the meantime, I have created a new approach to avoiding more inspection tickets:

Got a CS rad to go in and Dynamat hoodliner. Backorder on wastegate is being filled. Turbo should be back from rebuild soon, I've been told. (hand)
I've started a collection of Earls fittings to go along with my oil filter relocation and the turbo lines.
I also got a circuit breaker for the battery relocate, some wire and battery terminals and an RCA level controller for the sub box.
Wonder what I am forgetting? Oh, the replacement rod ends for my sway bar links!

send me some information about what your using to relocate the filter please, I'm doing the same myself in the next month

I went with the Earls cuz it was the least expensive billet pieces I could find. 1119 ERL and 2178 ERL.

so you're thinking the screws are ok now? you replaced them though...didn't you?

Pickup screws remain unchanged.

Cutout should be easy to do. We're running a spacer to move sensor within a closer tolerance of the pickup bolts. Signal is fine now.

So, time for an update...

Car has been off the road and in the shop to resolve CEL.
I can't pass inspection with it, and we can't get rid of a stubborn cylinder #3 misfire.
We've been trying LOTS of things, but not had any success.

On the turbo side of things, I got some news that was surprising, to say the least.
Precision Turbo (who kindly sat on my snail for like 6 weeks, tyvm), now returns my disassembled, and not-rebuilt unit.

Included with the usual parts is a Ziplock bag, labeled "What the ****?" and containing the following:

Wait for it............

It's coming

TAH-DAH!

FAIL!

Retrieved from the turbine housing. How did it ever get there?

Wheel is chewed:

LOVELY!

At this point, nothing surprises me...

That will be replaced by the guy i got it from with a new garrett replacement. Then the rebuild can proceed.
Problem is, Precision won't do rebuild with a supplied part, even though they use the SAME GARRETT PART!!
So we are looking at a few other options for where to have rebuild completed.

I would love to be back behind the wheel of my P5, but I am glad to have borrowed my Dad's jeep for all the snow we gots here. My driveway is still a glacier. OFC, I have continued to collect parts, 929 BMC, oil coolers, etc.

wow, a hose clamp? well i dropped a bolt down ben's turbo!! (notcool)

collecting parts while the car is off the road, priceless!! ;)(headbang)

damn that sucksss!

by the way, not to thread jack or nothin, but did either of you lose power for over a week before christmas?

"Hey, is that a banana in your tailpipe?"

"Why no, but I do have a hose clamp in my turbo!"
