Thinking about going full COBB, thoughts?

:
2008 Mazdaspeed3 Grand Touring - Black Mica
Hey i've got an 08 black ms3 GT and im thinkin about goin full COBB with thier FMIC and SRI... might go so far as to get the COBB ecu tuner too, what are your thoughts? im not too thrilled about having to wait so long but if its truly worth it im willing.

thoughts please???

Cobb makes good stuff but so does CP-E and Corksport and HKS and other vendors. Just depends on what all you want to do. I dont feel Cobb is the best at everything aftermarket for our cars so do your research. Personally I wouldnt restrict myself to one aftermarket manufaturer. If I had to right now tho I would go CP-E instead of Cobb.

why commit yourself to one company's offerings. There are plenty of good products from several company's. Don't be a fanboi.

i like the idea.. i have dealt with cobb in the passed and they have done nothing to wrong me. they treat u well and try to earn ur business why not have brand loyalty?

well first off its a stupid question. everyone has there own opinions about different manufactures. I just do not understand the thought process behind it. If you want to know the quality of the parts just look at the hundreds of posts of there sri or there fmic or the ap, all of which are available at the click of your mouse. Second off if you have questions regarding there products its always smart to check out there website cobbtuning.com go to there forums or even call them, they are great people to deal with.

maybe try to search around awhile before clicking that new thread option.

fanboi indeed...
brand loyalty is a great thing to have, but there are some things that other companies do better than cobb. i've been wary about the cobb sts and have considered getting it, but why...the twm is excellent and that's what i have in the car.

i'm not going to get the cobb sts just cause it says cobb on it. i'm going to search (ahem) and read all of the threads about the incorrect shaft size and how the reverse lockout is ****** up...then base my goddamn decision around that.
second point is the for the swaybars...yes, great cobb has swaybars for our cars, which are probably awesome, but they're made at the same place the hotchkis sways are made (same machine or whatever) and the hotchkis sway bars are a bit thicker or whatever, i haven't looked at this comparison in a while, but no sense in getting the cobb sway bars, just go with the actual manufacturer of them: hotchkis.

having brand loyalty is not the same as being a fanboi and vice versa. but you have to draw the line somewhere...just because it says cobb, does that mean you need it and need it now?

how many people bought a ******* shifter weight?

YES i agree with EVERYONE, there are so many other GOOD choices I would DEFINATELY not set yourself only to COBB, personally I've had the WORST luck with them and the quality of the stuff is not so great in my opinion. CorkSport on the other hand....WOW awesome quality and prices are second to none!! but you decide.

I wouldnt go with JUST one brand unless they were sponsoring me or giving me free parts lol. Just my 0.02. BUT its YOUR car, you do what YOU like. Good luck with your choice. Hey Phil, I DID buy the shifter weight cause without the weight it felt cheap, with the weight, it was too heavy. To me its "just right" but maybe its just me.

i've heard mixed things about the shifter weight. i'm not exactly sure what it's supposed to do or cure, so maybe that's why i just don't get it

hey cmon guys no need to start bashing me i was asking for your thoughts on that kind of thing not for you guys to bash me to high hell. ive read the threads but im new to this im only ******* 17 and i just dont want to put bad parts on my car.

i know i have to research these things and i have been but im just asking for thoughts within the community without feeling like im not a part of it.

by the way im in no bay a fanboi... this is the first car im even modding i used to drive a kia optima no sense in modding that so im not partial to one company im just going with what you all have been talking about

haha shouldnt of stated ur age now everyones gonna bash u for owning a "fast" car at 17 i got it sometimes too lol

I thought about going cobb for a long time just because I knew I wanted to get the accessport and stuff. I started off pretty good, then their downpipe kept getting delayed more and more, so I strayed away and got a cp-e downpipe. Then I preordered cobb's fmic, and found out they didnt make enough to fill thier pre-orders, I waited about a month or so, and they still didnt have anymore even though they said 3-4 weeks, so then I got my money back. I waited more and more and then 2 weeks ago I ordered an Exhaust Depot FMIC.
It'd be nice to go all Cobb, but I just couldn't wait for them. If you're impatient like me, you'll have a hard time too.

There's a lot of good companies making parts for our cars now, so I dont see any reason to limit yourself to just one.

If you're looking for advice, here is what I would do (FWIW):

Tuning: Cobb AP - give it a few more months and it should be the perfect tuning choice. I'm sure the Standback is fine, but the AP is just so slick.

Intake: Cobb - I think the CPE may be better, but it makes sense to stick to Cobb on this part if you are using the AP

FMIC: CPE - it is a bit more expensive but just looks like a better engineered part then the other choices

Downpipe: CPE - only one currently available with a CAT, the Cobb one will be worth checking out I'm sure when it is released

CBE: Stock or perhaps Cobb if it gets good reviews. I like the car to be low key and not too loud

STS: TWM - heard about too many problems with the Cobb part

Shifter Weight: Cobble Cobble (lol2)

Suspension: Mazdaspeed coilovers with Hotchkis sways. I have Cobb springs now and although they are better then stock, the stock shocks need upgrading as I don't think any springs will be a good match for them.
