Calling all MS3 Owners with smoking Turbos...

i know im kind of late with this whole issue but i was having the same problem with smoke coming out the exhaust after beng under boostthen idleing. i took it to the dealership (with my mods on) and they duplicated it. They ordered new turbo, gasket and everything and is going to fix it under warranty. hopefully i get a good turbo and the problem goes away. if it doesnt, hey, i got a new turbo out of the deal. =) but i dropped off the car today. they are overnight frieght shipping it and said it should be done by tomorrow evening. outstanding service. ill post again when i get the car back.

you think this problem would cause lost of HP and TQ?

I have heard from other mazda owners experience that the turbo provided from the dealer still have the same crappy seals. They have had the smoke appear at idle again even with the new K04 installed. I had a friend go through 3 different turbos with the dealer. Please keep in mind that he did not rag on the car at all for the smoke to re-appear.

But good luck. Let us know how it goes for you.

errrr... thats does not make me feel good inside at all... i really hope it doesnt smoke up again. i was lucky to even get my car worked on at this dealer. they hooked me up pretty well. i guess ill just have to wait till tomorrow to find out how it goes. if it happens again i doubt ill take it back to mazda to get a new turbo. ill just get the gt28r turbo and the cpe standback ecu and tune it. in any case. ill definately update when ig et my car back. *fingers crossed*

Sorry man. I did not want to scare you. Just as an FYI... Good Luck.

yeah. i wanted tos ee where i was. should i not have? i didnt think this lil turbo leak would hurt it too much. ill dyno it again when i get dp headers and ems

UPDATE!!!

car is like brand new, at least the turbo part. theres no more smoke coming out the exhaust after replacing the turbo, gaskets and all that other good stuff. car feels great, runs reat and looks even better. im in love once again.. never really lost the love in the first place but you know what i mean. Brown Mazda in fairfax is by far the best dealer ive ever delt with. of the 7 other cars ive had and numerous dealers, this is the best. out of a 1 - 10 scale, 10 being the absolute best, id say they are 11.

WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!

So go to fairfax huh? They didn't care about your mods???? What do you think they'd do if one of use rolled in with a downpipe?

they did care abuot the mods. but not as much as i thought they would. and being in the military helped too, i guess. the service advisor was prior navy or army i believe.

Hey all.... I apologize haven't gone through the whole thread but seems like the jist is the upgraded downpipe and/or exhaust has that been confirmed?

Second have these issues occurred on any stockers thats what I've been trying to find out?? If I should make a suggestion for the dealer to inspect my vehicle as my mileage is quickly growing. Thanks!!

its the bad turbo seal which inturn would be the turbo itself. after they replaced it, no more smoke. everything was running like the way it was suppose to.

second. yes, these issues have occured on stockers. but the amount of smoking coming out is very minimal becuase of the catalytic converters.

one of the best ways to check is to see if there's oil in the hot pipe or around the compressor outlet. a stock exhaust system 90% of the time hides the smoking problem. That is why when the exhaust restrictions are removed, the smoking problem is present. I don't believe that the exhaust system would cause the seals to go bad. Ask yourself how many modified turbo cars run straight pipe turbo-back without problems. The integra has a straight through exhaust, never had a turbo go bad on me.

to give you an idea how wayne mazda is not such a good dealership...they denied fixing my ac problem (doesnt get cold) cause they said i installed a boost gauge and i tapped into the fuse box and none of those fuses i use were ac fuse. then i went to another dealership and they told me that it has nothin to do with my boost gauge. they are willin to do the work, but i havent gone back yet.

ok so im guessing it would b smart on my part to start goin to a different dealership since ive heard nothing but negative things about them... wat dealership did u go to that was willing to fix ur ac problem?

i feel left out, my turbo doesnt smoke--luckily it does not drink much either. i do gamble when i redline. also--SHUTUP--o.k.--sorry

wine was smoking all last week gets kind of anoying, luckaly i have a bike and can let my car sit in the corner like a wildchild.

dudes, my car smoked while gettin oild changed and engine flush at Lube Express. The guy drained my oil, then he put this liquid in my engine, then he added oil ( i dont know how much) then he told me to start my car. then i started to smoke and nearly filled up the place with smoke. F**kin idiot told me that it smoked before when it didnt. he tried to tell me that all ms3 that comes there smokes. He drained the mix and put oil in it. I made sure he only put enough so the oil didnt go over the max line. He filled it with 5.5Q i just hurried up leavin there and i'm never comin back. i was drivin and it was smokin hard that cars behind me tried to dodge it. i made a couple stops to check the exhaust and it was smokin less and less with each stop, by the time i drove about 5 miles, smokin disappeared. I was so relieved. That idiot probably filled it with too much fluid and oil. But I havent see the smoking since then and it's been 3 days. I'm thinkin maybe some of it got through the piston rings and caused the smoke.

Would this prove that my turbo seals are ok? cause when one factor (overfill) is present it smoked...take that factor out (filled with right amount of oil) and smoke disappears. Cause if it smoked all along then it would have showed up long time ago. I only have 1 cat and it's high flow.

Er, what was this "fluid", where did he put it, and why?

The engine flush solution makes it smoke. The guy didn't prove anything. There's NO need to get an "engine flush" done on a ******* new or barely used car. I would never put that crap in my engine. Seafoam maybe but even that wouldn't be until 75k on the odometer.
