awd?

I have both on ym Driveway. Ill take the FWD MS3 over the AWD MS6 anyday. lol

Thoughts from looking but i think it was the Volve S40 was the same platform. The rear fo the S40 shoudl work. THe company using my car had a MS6 Rear end lying around. WE have toyed with the idea. HE is knowing hte Volvos pretty well.

(ot the person that though the motor is front to back only for AWD, look at the MAzda protege AWD, 323 (grt, gtx) motor all mounted the same.)

It could be done. Not only rear end. BUt gas tank needs aa swap. and probably the tunnerl. THe mAzda 3 in Japan is offered in AWD but it is also a 1.6

THe race team i work with Races a FOrd Escort he has raced in Speed world challenge in AWD car.s Awd wasnt neeeded or is needed till hittong like the 5400hp mark.
BUT he races a Escort since suspension was done right a researched he at 150hp can give some cars a run for there money that are AWD. so set up and driver will change!

BUT alas. IT might not be just the expense factorBUT its the I have one factor.

another thought i have learned alogn lines from an old wrighter for SPort compact car, who now works at MAzdaspeed and well has a mazda 3 (1 of 2) that somehow didnt get crushed fromt he transport ship that tipped.
well the 5 speed Mazda3 tranny is a variance of the mazda G series tranny. just the bell housing end is diffrent.

Thought there. AWD tranny from a 323 since it was a cable shifted tranny also. and well change the bell housing half of it. and got a AWD tranny unless wanting 6 speed then a MS^ tranny will need ot be done.

thanks for the information hugh! it definitely helps
the idea of the AWD tranny from a 323 is intruiging actually, from what I have heard they are very strong and not very susceptible to shreading gears like the protege transmissions

I also prefer the gear ratios in the older g-series transmission over the extremely short gear ratios on the speed3, but at the same time I really like the 6 speed of the new speeds...options, options, options...

the gas tank relocation however is a very good point, thanks for mentioning that
*adds it to the list of possible differences*

wish I could take a look at the schematics of all of these cars that utilize the AWD drivetrain...

oh, and yea I have heard about the japanese AWD 3....and while it may only be in a 1.6 it IS still an MZR and likely will bolt right up to the 2.3 because of that (if it is anything like the smaller displacement protege motors/g-series transmissions)....interesting

laserblue: no matter what there will always be those who diss new ideas because they themselves do not wish to spend the money to do it...if you don't wanna do it then that is YOUR choice, I will do with my money as I please...learn some social skills bro, just because you don't like an idea doesn't mean you need to voice it

speed three transmission can be used. you need to get the pto output off the MS6 or CX7, the pto would need to be welded up for full time awd or if you can use an electronic box to activate. pto shaft would have to be measured to find out if any of the mazda ones work i think wheelbase of the MS3 and MS6 are the same so should be able to use that off the shelf part. Exhaust needs to be changed. the valvo runs the exhaust and pto shaft through the same space as we have. fuel tank will have to be modifiedso youll lose capacity the valvo one might work and it would have the space for the shaft but probably cheper and easyier to modify that. rear suspension and rear diff of valvo would bolt up no problems only uncertenty is if it can handle the power or if will bolt up dirictly to pto shaft. speed6 rear susspension might fit in its the same inverted type and the width is close if not the same. so it might be a direct bolt in can't confirm that fact. the weight diffrence is not that much diffrent only 300 or so extra pounds. good luck with this project there are a lot up us that have thought about it. all my info is hypotheticle i have not actualy tried any of the theroys myself.

thanks for the awesome information bro!

I may just get a speed3 and speed6 together and go to town with my tape measure to at least somewhat confirm if they will bolt together first...

I'll keep you guys updated (thumb)

did u mean speed3 and speed6 (uhm)

yea hahahaha, thats what I get for getting less than four hours of sleep last night >.<

yea most all awd vehicles are not mounted that way, look at the evo or the sti....there are plenty of awd vehicles where the engine is mounted horizontally (I forget the exact word for it) Transverse
so far this looks very promising!

YOU ARE ALL IDIOTS! Buy an MS6, you could probably trade your MS3 for one str8 up. morons. awd ms3 would cost 40K if it was done right...what a waste of space = this thread.

If you have money to burn on a science expirament, go ahead, otherwise don't waste your time or brain cells.

what kind of car do you drive?
