I have a 03 Protege ES 2.0 and im looking to buy an intake for it. what are peoples opinions on the aem short ram and the injen cai? or if you have another preference lemme know.

thanks

I have one of those Ebay ones, you know for like 60 bucks or soemthing.
it gives it a nice sound, deep. But it dont work to well.
Just casue they dont seem well like iehter, a CAI or a Short ram intake.
But cold air intake, usually performs better, but if its too low, you always risk of flooding your engine.
Choice is yours, and oh short intake usually sounds more aggressive.
But if you spend your money, get something good.

I have the Injen CAI with a thermometer sitting in the air stream just before the throttle body. Cold air it is not. I've seen temps as high as 120* in 90* degree weather. Most cruising temps are in the 105-110 degree range. 130* or more after the car is parked with a hot engine for a few minutes.

I'm going to wrap the intake in some reflective insulation soon and see what that does to the temps.

have fun wth ur thermometer

actaully my buddy did that in his jeep.
he wrapped his intake pipes in that silver insulation stuff.
he said it actually really worked, cause the engine heat doenst get to the pipe that fast.

so i dont know i think i might give it a shot as well.

I'm running the aem short ram intake with a K&N filter (dry flow wasnt that great IMHO). Thermal wrap does help a bit though.

But remember - as soon as you move - all that hot air is replaced with new/cool air. Remove the rubber strip at the back of the engine bay at the windshield that helps hold hot air in.

Want to make a real difference? use thermoblok spacers for the intake manifold and throttle body. After a day of highway cruising my intake is still cool to the touch. Does it make a big difference in performance?

Probably not.

Probably not.

Hmm, really.
But that strip kinda helps to keep water out, no?
so i mean when your driving it might be good, but what if its just sitting there, you really dont want a whole lot of water to get into your engine bay.

Yes, and I see that 130* parked temp come down to 105* or so- which is still significantly elevated above outside the air temp.

And I did remove that rubber strip.

Have you ever hosed off your engine? This will get WAY more water on your engine than the worst rain storms (with the hood closed).

yes i have hoosed it down, yeah i see your piont.
so the temp was 130 C and when you removed the strip i went down to 105 C, holy crap that is a big differance.

^ LOl yeah that sounds better, i was like C wow past boiling temp.
Well i did it removed the strip on the car.

Ill make my test in C and up date you?
Ill also do a test in the winter.
