As I had noted in a previous thread, my car had been acting-up. After posting a few DashHawk logs, it became evident that something was up...

Checked hoses, BPV and all VAC lines and all were tight, but this morning, as I backed out of the driveway, I was greeted with my first Check Engine Light...

Quick analysis confirmed a P2004 "IMRC Stuck Open".

Anyone see this before? What was the outcome?

Mine is camped at the dealer for now while they try to hammer this down. I also asked that they perform the PCM Flash Re Fuel Pump TSB.

Meanwhile, I dawdle around in a 2008 CX7...*sigh*

Thats the valve in the intake manifold is it not? I remember there being a TSB or something to that effect, Should be an easy fix for the dealer techs. And you got a good loaner. When mine needed some attention, I got to ride around in a 4 cylinder tribute, so it could be far worse for you.....

...wow. That puts things in perspective...

Actually I like the power this CX7 makes...when driven right (in the "manual" mode) it has gobs of torque down low.

Still, can't wait to drive the Speed3 at full song again.

Update

Well, the MS3 has been with the dealer since MONDAY, and they are still working on it (I assume). They called and told me they had to drive it at 10 mile intervals after clearing the codes to get it to trigger again before getting to the problem.

Again, this was a P2004 IMRC Stuck Open error, clear as day, and it's now day 5 in the saga.

How long is "normal" as far as warranty repair work goes?

EDIT. They also claimed they would have to "talk with Mazda and see if the car warranted the PCM flash" even though this car is clearly in the VIN range. Humph

why did they clear the code and then try to bring it back especially if its a known issue... i would print out the tsb if there is one and bring it to the service writers desk... sounds like they don't have a clue which is what i run into more often then not.

No kidding. And when I heard "we'll have to talk to Mazda" from a guy wearing a "Mazda" shirt, I literally lol'd.

Here see if this works. Since you know all the tsb's you fix it! I mean if it's as easy as everyone on here says it is!

YIKES! This thread got you worked-up huh? Wasn't my intention I'll assure you. But in my experience, warranty work is best performed by the folks who warranty the car. 5 days and one phone call with no ETA is a bit disheartening....

...Were this my sc'd, out-o-warranty-track-dog Miata, you can BET I would.

You can get warranty parts over the counter if you really want. Sorry I didn't mean for it to sound that way. It's just that everyone on here reads all these tsb and such and 90 percent of the time they have nothing to do with what is actually wrong with the car. That and tsb's aren't warranty its more of a suggested place to look if something goes wrong.

SLO I think the issue is that they have had the car for 5 days and have not found the solution. If it were me I would have asked them what they have done, what they have found, and what they expect to try next.

I would want to know that they have been working to resolve the problem as opposed to the car just sitting around. There are some problems that may be hard to diagnose - even with the code - and that will take time to track down. You may switch components and clear the code and then have to drive the car to allow the system to retest. I would want to know that this is going on. I would want to know that work is taking place and that the car is just not sitting around or that they have been waiting on parts for days.

Update #2

Called to ask "what/when" so-forth and was told that they have ordered a new PCM for the car. They (obviously) don't see that very often, and they expect a replacement next week.

I have to wonder if there are many precedents of this here? Anyone seen or heard of ECU needing replacement on the MS3?
