87 Octane in Speed 3

I'm not really surprised a dealer would do something like that. It's bad enough that I only get 91 where I live but I'd rather they left the tank empty than fill it up with 87.

No offense bro but... seems like you were a bit of a pushover at the dealership. I would have raised bloody hell. If you're like most people, this (being a car) is the 2nd biggest purchase you'll ever make. Unless it's a ridiculously good deal, things like them drilling holes into the front bumber (for the license plate) and excessive "test drive mileage" are all deal breakers. This is a car you'll (hopefully) be babying for many years to come. Don't you want it to be in the absolute best condition possible the second you drive it off the lot? I'm no gasoline expert but I can't imagine 87 octane being "good" for the car. Hopefully there are no lingering effects. Either way, I totally would have made them drain the tank and refill it with the proper fuel... If you want respect you have to demand it.

Even though I didn't like the dealer I bought my MS3 from, and made me fill it up, at least they simply gave me a slip to give to the gas station so it would be charged to them -- I filled it up and made sure to get 93 Octane.

What?!? I'm almost positive the window sticker says that a full tank of gas should be included with the price. That is what the damn "destination charge" is for. Dealers get reimbursed for this that.

I wouldn't worry about it. It's no big deal really. Just a tank of gas. The ECU will adjust once you put better stuff in there. Besides, you're likely not nor should you be pushing it to the limit to even notice the difference on such a new motor. Enjoy the new ride.

So I picked up my new 2008.5 Speed from the dealer with 9 miles on it. As a courtesy they give you the car with a full tank of gas. While he handed over the keys, he added with a big smile that the tank was full. My obvious question was what octane and he said 87 is what they always put (pissed). What dumb dealers??(bang). I have been taking it very easy till this tank finishes. Can't wait to put in 93. Pissed the hell out of me ! Brainless numbnuts !

Car is running really good. Absolutely no sign of pinging at all. Tank is almost done. Filling it up with 93 tomm :-)

My sticker didnt say a full tank of gas was included and the "destination charge" isnt for the full tank of gas but to get your car from point A to the dealer... most dealers include the tank of gas as part of doing business and I would say half have porter drive it to gas station and get gas and the other half give you voucher... its a dealer thing not a Mazda thing...

To the OP: Call the service manager and tell them why you wont take your car for service to them and mention who the sales guy was that told you it was no big deal... Im positive the service manager will rip him a new one... they are diff. depts and work under different incentives.. service manager will not be happy that sales guy cost HIIM his business
