The ultimate exhaust sound

listen, i'm trying to be cool about this. a forum is a place where people come to share interests and ideas, even if an idea is shared by a tiny minority. i initially thought the members of this forum were more open minded, but now i'm having second thoughts. why don't you show some maturity and quit the flaming?

I know what you mean, man. I agree that people's responses have been a little harsh. (yupnope) I'm sorry about that.

I wouldn't put the thing on my car, but there are people out there who would, and it is a legitimate, marketable idea. People shouldn't give you so much crap about it, especially when you live in California and can't do anything "real" to your car without being pulled over and given a fine. There are people who care more about "show" than "go", as they say. They might be very interested in this idea.

With that in mind, you have to also understand that the idea of "simulating" a powerful car's sounds....can be frustrating to another group of people who spend a lot of time and money building their cars.

You post that and then complain about others maturity?

Seriously?

in terms of thread epicness, this falls right behind the cobalt "engine works in reverse when driving the car in reverse" thread.

Yup, this guy...

Just make sure to jam an air filter on your exhaust pipe. Wow I missed that thread but......wow.

From what I've been hearing, it's tough (or impossible) to modify the ms3 exhaust to give an aggressive growl at throttle AND be quiet at cruising AND be legal in California.

All right, I wouldn't do the trick of modifying the exahust sound so it would sound like another car, but pumping a frequency through the speakers to cancel unwanted car noise would probably be fairly straightforward for companies like Bose (considering they already have the technology). Active noise cancelation, giving a quieter ride, without the weight penalty of sound deadening doesn't sound stupid to me. I remember several implementations of active noise cancelation on several cars (certain trim levels of Accord 08 come to mind). I don't know you guys, but I wouldn't mind a button to lessen the exhaust noise if I had a migrane acting up while driving.

you must be joking.

that thing is silent on startup... it cant be much louder with its engine on...

To the OP - I'm sorry, but please sell your car to someone else and just go...Exhaust sounds through your car's stereo to make you think you are going faster...This may just be the WORST THREAD I HAVE EVER SEEN ON ANY FORUM (and I'm on Nasioc a lot...)...

You make me sick...

i have trouble understanding people who get so worked up by this thread. if you think this idea is stupid, then so be it. there's no need to be offended. i'm not forcing you to like my idea. and btw, i enjoy driving my ms3 very much in stock form.

i'll be nice hehe. mod ur ms3 and put a resonator on it? dont go catless and dont put test pipes and what not. dunno if u can do that to a ms3 but my friend has a p5 wit a racing header wit the same exhaust i have and it was so loud...after he put his hushpower resonator(idk what its really called. look on ebay), it sounded less noisy. according to him, it brought the sound down choke and sounds great at the same time.

try out some research if ur concerned about sounds and modding. it shouldnt be that hard of a job if u just go to a good exhaust shop to get the resonator welded in while ur at it, try put in a high flow cat.

lol..idk if this all applies to FI cars hehe

Look, instead of flaming, why not 'resuggest' this OP's question?

Instead of straight 'faking' it with stereo, couldn't somebody make an exhaust tone modulator that took your existing exhaust tone and Darth Vadered it? You could just pop it in the system on the back or even in the exit tailpipe, and instead of a drone you get the throaty burbling of a 69 Z28. Hell, I'd buy it for my MS3, exhaust tone is the ORIGINAL 'no replacement for displacement' thing. I could give a damn what gives me torque and performance, but man that sound is something else.

(headbang)

My friend used to have a cassette tape (yes, I am that old) of a drag race. We used to blare it when we cruised while wearing sparkly helmets.

Of course, we didn't take ourselves seriously at all.

i do drive around with a blow up doll so people will think i finally got a date. maybe i can get an audio system to make her sound like she is having an orgasm!!! i would be soooooo popular.

Seriously how tough would it be to NOT add speakers and fake sound, but to voice-modulate the existing exhaust sound coming from the tailpipe into a lower octave or pitch? The flamers here are not contributing to anything but the George Bushing of America. Great comment; less dumbing.
